A radically different type of compost
Compost is marvelous stuff. No doubt about it. If you're a gardening nut like me, you've no doubt tried different techniques and tools for creating it. So when I heard about a totally different method of creating a very different compost, I couldn't wait to get my earth-laden hands on it! Now I'm so enthusiastic that I decided to share the info with all you other gardening nuts out there.
To understand the value of colloidal humus compost, you need to know a little about colloids and humus --- surprise, surprise!

Colloidal Humus 101!
A little background on how this works
I don't want to make this a science lesson, but it's important to understand the difference between colloidal humus compost and the traditional kind.
First, what's a colloid? Well it's a structure of solids suspended in liquid. Can you picture jello? Well that's a colloid. Colloidal humus holds soluble plant nutrients in a ball like putty. It feels like putty too. It has hardly any smell, and what smell there is is quite pleasant. The neat thing about this colloid thing is that when you water the garden, or when it rains, the nutrients won't leach out of the soil.
Pure humus is not that gucky mess that sometimes collects in the bottom of your compost bin. Pure humus is a natural colloid --- and plants love it!

Easy on the eye, easy on the arms!
No more big piles and no more turning
Now I won't kid you, there is still some work to do to make colloidal humus compost. But it's quite easy, and the best thing is that it's not heavy work. If you're like me and sometimes have arthritis pains that make turning the compost pile difficult, you'll love colloidal humus compost because it never needs turned!!!
And when it has processed itself, in about three months or so, you'll have a lovely ball of soft, easy to handle substance --- just like the picture at the top of this lens.
I learned about colloidal humus compost from a great Australian guy who's been using it for twenty years, so I think it qualifies as one of those "best kept secrets". If you want to learn more, check it out at
