Make The Best Cookies Ever This Holiday Season
One thing you can get a jump on for any occasion, or holiday is baking. Bake your cookies now, and throw them in the freezer. You'll be ready to pull them out at the last minute dress them up, or throw on some last minute decorations.
Your friends and neighbors will be impressed with how much you can accomplish. Don't tell them your secret, let them think you're just superhuman. With the great cookie recipes you'll find here your family's sure to be impressed.
Cookies are a great afternoon snack, housewarming gift, classroom treat, party finger food, holiday staple. Here are some of the best recipes I've ever tasted.
Best Cookies Ever: Raspberry Tarts

These cookies make a great gift (think Valentines Day, Mother's Day, Easter, birthdays), or a stunning addition to a cookie tray. These jam filled cookies look yummy, and don't disappoint in taste.
Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1 cup softened butter
5 eggs (yolks only)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup strawberry preserves (seedless)
You will also need two heart shaped cookie cutters, one a little larger than the other, or other cookie cutter shape as long as you have 2 with one slightly larger.
Mix the flour, egg yolks, sugar, butter, and vanilla together until it forms a soft dough.
Let the dough chill for at least 30 minutes.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface, until it is about 1/8" thick for best results. Use the larger cookie cutter to cut out a shape for the base, then cut a second shape with the larger cookie cutter, and use the smaller cookie cutter to cut out the center of the shape, to make the top of the cookie.
Preheat your oven to 350`F. Put the cookies on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for ten minutes. When the cookies have cooled put jam in the center of the bottom cookie, and place the cut out cookie on top.

Make Your Own Colored Sugar Sprinkles
All you need is sugar and liquid food coloring in your favorite color. For each color of sugar sprinkles you'd like to make have one half a cup of sugar in a bowl or plastic bag. Add a couple drops of food coloring to the sugar and mix or shake until the color is mixed in. If the color is not dark enough add a couple more drops of food color, until you have the desired shade.
Store your colored sugar in an airtight container or plastic bag until you're ready to use them. more on making sugar sprinkles

Best Cookie Icing Recipe
I got this recipe from my sister, and I've had great luck with it.Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter (softened but not melted)
1/2 cup shortening
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt
5-6 tablespoons of warm water
Cream the butter and shortening together until smooth, add the vanilla. Dissolve the salt into the warm water completely. Mix the water/salt mixture into the creamed butter and shortening. Put the mixer on low, and add powdered sugar slowly, mixing constantly.
The amount of water can be increased or decreased to achieve the desired consistency, I usually have the best luck with 6 tablespoons.
Add food coloring to make the color you need, and ice away.

Plan A Kids Cookie Party
Let your child (or children) invite a few friends over to decorate cookies. This is a great party for grandmas to have, and invite the grandchildren. Have the cookie dough pre-made and chilling in the refrigerator. You can make several different kinds of cookies, but the cutout cookies will be the most popular. Lay out an assortment of cookie cutters. Let each child cut out a few cookies with the cookie cutter of their choice. Bake the cookies and let them cool.
Set up a cookie bar with different colors of icing, sprinkles, candies, and whatever else you can think of. Let the children each decorate their own cookies. Let them eat a couple, then take the rest home, or keep some for holiday gatherings.
It's a great project for a cold, or rainy fall day. What can brighten your day more than baking cookies?
