Dog Behavior Training: What You Need to Know

There are many different forms of dog training aids. You can get broad general dog training information that helps you have a well-behaved house pet, or specific information like dog agility training for those owners who plan to have their pet in some sort of show.

You can also invest in dog training books or DVDs that tackle specific dog training issues like stopping Fido from chewing on your new Christian Louboutin heels. You can find a dog potty training course for those pets who refuse to let you know when it's time to go outside.

As a responsible dog owner, it's your job to determine what your pet's problem areas are and focus on helping it to learn how you want it to act for you. A dog may run off on a whim unless you teach it that when you're out and about, the proper protocol is to stick close to you.

Dog training aids come in handy when you're using a certain strategy to implement obedience in your pet's life. You can choose clickers, treats, and even mild electric gadgets to teach the lessons you want your pet to learn. You'll have to decide which technique works best for you and your pet as a team.

First figure out what your reasons are for training your dog. Is it so that he'll be a well-behaved member of the family - gentle with children, loving and protective of your household and all of its members? Or are you seeking less of a companion and more of a guard dog or show dog?

Start Them Early!
We were fortunate to have great mentors in the breed and I was a Veterinary Technician at a local veterinary hospital, so socialization as well as regular obedience (for lack of a better term) began around 6 weeks of age. By the time the puppies were ready for their new homes at 12 weeks, they were civilized members of the canine-human communities.
