Best doggone dog chews - deer antlers, elk antlers, bully sticks and more!

Ranked #1,500 in Pets & Animals, #39,838 overall

My absolute favorite dog chews!

I love to chew, most dogs do!

After a nice hike up the ridge or after an agility trial, there's nothing better than lying at my Mum's feet with a nice chew.

But I want safe and healthy stuff to chew on, and Mum wants that for me too!

So we put together some of the best doggone dog chews we could find, just for you. So sniff around awhile, you might find something just for your dog to chew too!

Happy chewing!

Deer antlers are my favorite!

Deer antlers are my favorite dog chew of choice, and they are all natural and healthy too.

Deer antlers are composed of a bone-like material that regenerates each year. When the animal's antlers have reached full growth, the blood supply to the antlers stops and they start to harden. The velvet protective covering dries and the animal sheds his beautiful headdress, making way for a new set of antlers to grow (and each new set of antlers gets progressively bigger!).

This nutrient-packed, marrow-filled bone (composed of calcium, phosphorous, and as much as 50% water) that has served its first purpose and then been cast aside, now becomes a long-lasting, odor-free, natural chew that dogs love. As long as you choose appropriate size antlers for your dog, antlers usually do not break or splinter like some bones do.

You can find naturally shed deer antlers too!

Hey guys if you don't want that...uuuggghhhh...I'll take it!

I love Elk Antlers too!

Gracie is a bit bigger dog than I, so she likes Elk Antlers which are just a little thicker and bigger than my deer antlers.

Large Elk antlers are all natural; they have not been chemically enhanced nor do they contain dyes or preservatives.

Using antlers as dog chews for your canine companion offers many advantages over other dog chews. First, and most importantly, a dog's natural instinct is to search out and chew bones.

Antler is bone, but unlike skeletal bones that primarily have a soft center, antler is solid bone thereby making it virtually impossible for your dog to break. Antler dog chews will not splinter, making them safer than bones as well as long lasting. Because it is bone, antler is naturally rich in calcium and minerals.

Deer, Elk and Moose antlers are naturally shed in the wild.

Moose Antlers!

Next on our list to try are Moose Antlers!

Every year across North America millions of male moose shed their antlers. Using antlers as dog chews for your canine companion offers many advantages over other dog chews.

Large Moose antlers are all natural; they have not been chemically enhanced nor do they contain dyes or preservatives.

These chews come to you exactly how nature created them, except that all the edges have been sanded smooth. They are sorted and graded by weight, each one weighing 6 to 9 oz. The length and shape of each antler varies, but they are approximately 5 to 8 inches. Most moose antlers come in flatter pieces than deer or elk antlers. Large Moose antlers are appropriate for dogs weighing 40-70 lbs.

Himilayan Dog Chews

We haven't tried these yet, but our friends absolute love them! I can't wait, because I just love, love, love cheese!

Himilayan Dog Chews come from an ancient recipe used by the locals in Nepal to create a long-lasting hard cheese-like snack that they can slowly work in their mouths while they are laboring in the fields. During a three-year service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nepal, one of the company's founders took in an abandoned puppy.

Because the pup was teething and there was no access to the plethora of products available here in the U.S., the need to improvise with locally available products arose. The result is this long-lasting dog chew. Dogs must work the end of the treat, gradually softening it with their mouths, before small parts of it can be scraped off.

These chews are distributed and packaged in the USA. The company, Himalayan Dog Chews, imports only the finest quality product made by community co-ops in Nepal for human consumption. They test the product in U.S. laboratories for its content, including harmful bacteria and potential for bacterial growth over time.

The Himilayan Dog Chews come in sizes small, medium and large.
Himilayan Dog Chews are made from Yak and cow milk, using traditional methods. They are 100% natural with no preservatives.

Braided Beef Tripe Sticks

I love, love, love tripe!!! And it's so good for you!

Braided Beef Tripe is becoming ever more popular as a supplemental food in canine diets. As carnivores, dogs cannot convert vegetation into nutrients within their own stomach, but by eating tripe they receive these nutrients from the grasses and grains that have already been processed naturally by the cow's stomach.

Braided Tripe Sticks are a healthy, light, and crunchy chew. They are not designed to be a long-lasting chew, but rather a way of adding tripe to your dog's diet. These braided sticks are approximately 1.5" wide and 12" long.

Icelandic Fish Skin Chews

Elinora's Royal Natural Snack Icelandic Fish Skin Chews are an all-natural dog treat made solely out of dried Icelandic fish skin. There are no additives or preservatives. About 77% of dried fish skin is protein and the rest is mostly fiber-and it's fat free! In addition, fish skin contains essential fatty acids and is very healthy for dogs and especially beneficial for maintaining good teeth and a beautiful coat. Fish from deep cold waters, such as those surrounding Iceland, are especially rich in Omega-3s.

Dogs are quite happy chomping on these. And they are especially good for puppies at teething time!

I don't know who sent them to me, perhaps the company, there was no business card nor note attached, but just gave Cici a himalayan dog chew and she ate it in 20 minutes, not exactly the long lasting chew I expected. will have to try the elk and deer antlers.

Great information! I have thought about elk antlers for our dogs for a while but haven't purchased them. About time I did! I give them rawhide now because they are readily available but I know the dangers of them and the mess they make. Again, thanks. I will be buying them soon!!
