Best Presents for Kids Who Love Dolphins
Ranked #7,315 in Pets & Animals, #183,899 overall
Great for the kid in all of us!
My daughter loves marine life of all kinds, but greatest of all is her love for dolphins. She would be perfectly happy if her entire room were decked out with dolphins. She's even taught me a thing or two about these wonderful animals. Recently I've been thinking about what to get her for Christmas and have found way too many things to get her. Maybe this will help you (and hopefully, me too) find the perfect present for the dolphin-lover in your life.

Why not a book?
There are a ton of really great dolphin books lying around my house, all with great information to learn about these creatures. My daughter's favorites tend to be the nonfiction ones, but there is the occasional fiction book thrown into the mix.
The National Geographic books on different animals are all fantastic - full of information and also beautiful to peruse We have a few different ones but the dolphin one is definitely a favorite. When it comes to dolphins, she's happy to read a fiction book but she's mostly interested in learning about their real lives.

Is your girl growing up? How about some jewelry?
My daughter just got a beautiful dolphin necklace from her grandmother, and she wears it all the time -- including to bed. Make sure you get a high-quality one; a lot of them fall apart on the first wearing. If your girl likes dolphins as much as mine, it's worth it to get a decent one that will stand the test of time (and tweens!).
For the younger ones, stuffed animals win every time!
Stuffed dolphins were a huge hit in our family for years. You couldn't go into my daughter's room without stepping on or around a stuffed dolphin. Even my young son would like to curl up with a dolphin at night. There are tons of different choices; here are some of my favorites.
For instance, Pillow Pets are huge these days. We can't go anywhere without carting around at least two or three of them. They are all well-made, and a perfect $20 present. If you've got a girly-girl, try the dolphin in a purse! It doesn't get any better than that.

Maybe a movie?
My daughter loved Dolphin Tale (and it's a great story for adults too!). We saw it opening weekend, and it was a huge hit in our family. There were some teary eyes, and some smiling faces (and I think my daughter enjoyed it too). It's based on the non-fiction book Winter's Tale about a dolphin who gets a prosthetic tail after hers is irreparably damaged. It's truly a wonderful and heart-warming story.
Dolphin Tale might be the most recent movie about dolphins but it is by no means the only movie out there. Dolphin: Story of a Dreamer is good for younger kids, and the Dolphins: IMAX is great for older kids who are interested in the real thing.

Here are some great places to see (and swim with!) dolphins.
We recently took a trip to Florida, and let me tell you, Discovery Cove might just be the happiest place on earth. If you can afford to go swim with a dolphin for half an hour, it's a truly fantastic experience. It's expensive, but because parking and food is included, it's not really that much more than a day at DisneyWorld or Universal. And if you have a child who really, truly loves dolphins, there is really no better present. My daughter was able to spend about half an hour with a dolphin in a small group, culminating in being pulled in a "swim" by the dolphin across the water. We even have a picture of her kissing the dolphin.
What I particularly loved about Discovery Cove is that they apparently ask the dolphins if they want to meet with a group, and if the dolphin says no, they rotate over to another one to give the first one a break. It's so fantastic that they treat the animals with so much respect and love. Really, it was a wonderful experience.

- Discovery Cove
- Amazing place, a full day's adventure. Must be at least 6 years old to swim, and age 12 to swim without an accompanying adult. What a great gift!
- SeaWorld
- In San Antonio, Orlando, and San Diego. For a small fee you can feed the dolphins.
- Dolphins Plus
- In Key Largo? Swim with dolphins there too! Includes both a structured swim and a natural swim -- you won't find this anywhere else!
Don't forget about the football lovers! Try some Miami Dolphins gear
Dolphins aren't just for tween girls though. You can also get lots of great Miami Dolphins gear for the football-lover in your family. Who says girls get to have all the fun? The most fun idea is definitely the uniform, but if you want something a little more practical, try out the watch. These presents are good for kids who love the Miami Dolphins, but also for all the grown-ups who love football too.
Dolphins are truly amazing animals
Okay, so this isn't really something you give as a gift, but it definitely makes you realize how amazingly smart dolphins are! Makes you kind of wish you WERE a dolphin. Or is that just me?
