The Best Domain Extension...Does It Exist?
The Argument...
However, some people insist that the originals: .com, .net and .org take precedence and receive move search engine favoritism than the rest. Is it true? Can a .us, .biz or .cc not achieve the same rankings as a .com? Is it all a myth, or has anyone actually proven this with an all-inclusive test?
Think of this page is a huge survey about domain names! Have fun, vote, and let's see what the majority says about the myths, facts and opinions of domain name extensions!
The Sound-Off
Do domain names rank differently based on extension?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byI agree, they do!

.com is certainly the best extension in my opinion - and I believe that the "whata" domain name prefix could also become relevant in the future. Please see "whatagooddomainname.com" ... and let me know what you think.

I still believe they rank highest in the following order: 1) .com 2) .net 3) .org 4) .co.uk & .us 5) everything else!

No way - this is what I think!
The Best Domain Extension
Here's the "Pepsi vs. Coke" of domain debates. Sorry, it had to be done. So, vote for your pick for the greatest domain extension! (Greatest can mean most brandable, receives the most traffic, has the best luck in search engines or any other reason you might have!)
The Worst Domain Extension
I'm willing to bet that one just came to mind the instant you've read that question. Vote for it here! (To avoid a mile-long list of options, we'll only show the "main set" of universally registered domains)
Domain Extensions & Ranking Results
.net is sometimes referred to as "the other .com" - being one of the original three extensions, .net was always favored by info tech companies, server hosts and other related computer service providers.
A popular rumor amongst webmaster message boards is that the .org extension (originally intended ONLY for non-profits and charitable organizations) holds search engine weight higher than .net and possibly .org due to this fact. .org was actually never intended to be a publicly registered domain - but it became too late once released. So, do you believe .org takes precedence in the eyes of Google et all?

So,

I typically don't see .org's ranking higher than .com or .net's.

All About Domain Hacks
Have domain names like del.icio.us gotten ann.oy.ing? Sound off with your vote on whether domain hacks have jumped the shark!
Subdomains and SEO
Subdomains can be created through your hosting provider. Say that you own me.com - a subdomain you can create might be for.me.com, with.me.com or buy.me.com. It's simply the "prefix" separated by a period, before your domain. Subdomains are treated like seperate websites by search engines, rather than being related to the domain it's based off of. Do you think subdomains help in terms of SEO? Would "buy.me.com" rank higher for key phrases than "buy.com/me"? Vote here!
Are You a ccTLD Fan?
A ccTLD, or "country code top level domain," is a domain extension created specifically for a single country...for instance, co.uk for the United Kingdom, or .it for Italy. They are typically able to be registered if you live in or own an office in that country. Some are made "universally registerable," and it doesn't matter where in the world you're in before you purchase a domain with the extension.
You're smart enough to know that .ws is the extension for Western Samoa (not Web Site), and .tv is the country code for Tuvalu (not Television). No, .me doesn't stand for "me" as in "myself," but for Montenegro. Do you buy (literally) into the ccTLD hype, or dismiss it as rubbish?
Does .info Suck?
.info has gotten widespread praise since its induction in 2001. There's no mistaking that any website extension named ".info" means that the site it's running is informative in some way: a thesaurus, encyclopedia, or wiki site. However, spammers have dragged it through the mud. It's low cost made it attractive for "mass production" of spammy, low-quality sites. Google responded vehemently. Today, .info domains typically stuggle to get indexed - regardless of if they are legitimate sites that "play by the rules," or not.
Give Us Info on Your .info Thoughts
Your .info Experiences Are:

I will say, that the quality of an .info domain is less than the majority. However, I do have some (14) and they are all indexed and rank well. It does take more effort, but when I hear the ocasional response like: I can't get indexed or ranked no matter what" I think these people need to look more at what they are doing. These days the domain extention "importance" is less than years ago, and getting less as time goes on. If you have a decent content based site, you will be fine. Chances are that the poeple who have domain names that do poorly with getting indexed, etc, is because a previous owner may have abused it in some way.For instance, I've registered new domain names of .com, .net, .org, .ws and with any one of those I've had it that after registering the domain(s) and setting up a blog or small site, I do the same with all the domain types and start monitoring the domain name for pages being indexed. A Freshly registered domain shows n/a when you check the pr. This is simply because its new and nothing is indexed yet. As soon as a few pages are indexed, you become a pr 0.
At this point I start monitoring for my backlinks I've been submitting, to be sure they are being accepted. Ok, now heres the important part... with any of the domain extentions, it has happened that when I start scanning for backlinks, I come accross 3, 5, 8 maybe even more of backlinks that are already indexed, and have been for a year. These are the previous owners backlinks, and if they are on a porn site, or somehow contradict the content and backlinks of what you are now doing.
Thats just one simple example of problems that exist that no one takes into consideration. I suspect that .info domain names have this problem more, because people over time have abbused them and given them a very "disposable" type of reputation. I have had that problem with all the extentions here and there, but yes, I admit it's mostly with .info. With that all said however, any domain name/extention can rank great with good content and quality links.
Just remember, that even though the name had their original purpose, or "standing" in the online community, this is less important with the incredible growth and need of domain names. Search engines like google and yahoo can't afford to be as picky about it as they once were. So again, it's really about the quality of the site.
So even though there are still some preferences in regards to the importance of the extentions,... I'm surprised at some of the conclusions people come to. On this page is a poll asking about the worst extentions ever, and .ws got the worst ratting??? LOL
I believe that 98% of the opinion on that, is just that... opinion, and not experience. I have owned as many as 340 + domains and currently have just over 100 active. 37 of them are .ws and ALL rank great! in fact, they out rank everything else almost. 7 of the .ws domains I have, ended up ranking within the top 4 pages with barely 1 page of content, no backlinks, and after a month became a pr 3.
Not once, not twice, but 7 times that happened. WHY? you ask.
I dont really know, except that the majority of the names havent been used untill recent, where as .com, .net and .org have had more ownders than joan rivers has had face lifts.
Howver, Im happy to all who think their awful and don't use them,... just leave them to me. PS. Some proof below:

Awful. I had a Wordpress site on a .info for almost 7 months and it could not get indexed, even after 3 dozen backlinks and updated content. I moved the site to a .com and it appeared on Google by the next day. I gave up on .info's permanently.
