Coffee grinders - how it all began
They placed it in a bowl and used a blunt stick to crush it along the sides and bottom of the bowl. As you can imagine there was hard work involved and it was also time consuming, not to mention the mess! Folks with little patience decided to just smash the coffee with a hammer.
The rather primitive methods of grinding coffee were later replaced by a mechanical or manual grinder. At the time people were already using similar devices to grind their spices. They would place the coffee between 2 disks - one stationary and the other moving. The coffee was ground by the movement of the disks. This process is also known as milling.
More history of coffee grinders
From manual to electric
Around the same time the wall mount was also innovated. That made things much easier since you no longer had to hold the coffee grinder in your hand while you ground the coffee.
During the milling process they discovered some interesting information about coffee. The more friction that took place while grinding, the hotter the coffee bean would get, which in turn would alter the flavor of the coffee. The finer the grind, the more flavor the coffee had. In addition, if the ground coffee was uniform in size, brewing became easier.
Manual coffee grinders were then replaced by a machine doing the work with a person controlling it. This way the distributor was able to process the coffee to be sold the same way each time.
Later however, people didn't want all the coffee to taste the same. So there was a demand for a variety of tastes. Therefore the machine that was invented to produce coffee with the same taste had to change as well.
Today most of us prefer to buy coffee that's already ground. However, there are still many people who like to grind their own coffee. They know just how to make it to their liking. So you can find electric coffee grinders in grocery stores where you can grind your own coffee beans.
By knowing a little of the history hopefully you will appreciate the modern electric coffee grinders you have at home today.

About Burr Coffee Grinders
The biggest advantage of burr coffee grinders is consistent grind fineness which is the best for any brewing process. The higher quality products also have mechanisms that reduce the heat generated by friction and hence, preserve the coffee's natural flavor.
I love a great cup of java and I have spent a lot of time trying to find products that will help me make the best brew. I have tried a number of different grinders including antique coffee grinders but none of them can match the quality of the burr coffee grinder. It may not be cheap but definitely worth every penny. Sometimes making an investment is necessary in order to enjoy a quality product.

Office coffee makers
Tips to make good coffee at work
The first thing you want to do is consider the different features the appliances offer. If you choose an office coffee maker that has certain attributes you will experience a better cup of java. For instance, you can buy one that has a water filtration system. A coffee maker that filters the water well will produce better tasting coffee.
A clean office coffee maker will also yield better brew. Try adding a pot of vinegar into the machine once each week and brew it. Then follow the vinegar with cold water and brew that. I learned this trick from a friend who used to be a waitress. If you do this every Friday afternoon before you leave the office, you can look forward to great tasting coffee on Monday morning at work!
