Have you ever been up late, tired but wanting to stay awake? Need that extra kick while you're playing Starcraft 2? Need more energy to headbang at that concert tonight? Well, whatever the case, you're in luck. In this article, I'll be talking about the 5 greatest energy drinks of all time. We've all heard of Monster Energy Drink, Rockstar Energy Drink, and Venom Energy Drink... But judging by flavor, value, and how much energy you get, the top 5 will be discovered.

Energy drinks are a primary tool in the arsenal of any gamer. Or anyone who plays paintball. Or anyone who does BMX racing. Honestly, energy drinks are something that people of all types love, and rightfully so. They are, for lack of a better word, awesome... but there are so many different kinds.
The above problem leads to the question, "Which energy drink is the best?" Well, not only can I tell you that, but I can tell you the top 5, and give you reasons why they belong where they are. I'm qualified to say, too. After all, I do play Starcraft.

Best Energy Drink #5 - Monster

Energy Rating: 7/10
The caffeine content of Monster energy drinks is 10 mg/oz., or 160 mg for a 16 oz can. Large portions of the energy from Monster come from Taurine and Ginseng. Despite the energy blend's looks, it's not as effective as it may appear. Upon drinking Monster, energy drink newbies will get a kick. We, the veterans of the Energy Drink, will get a kick also... but a small one. Energizing, yes... but not the best there is to offer.
Taste Rating: 7/10
While taste is hard to describe, I will do my best. All Monster energy drinks have that distinct Monster taste, yet each packs a little something different. Khaos, for example, has an orange taste to it. Assault, a cherry-esque taste. Monster is a good drink, and considering most gas stations don't carry the best energy drink ever (Number 1 on this list) I still buy it and drink it occasionally. Chilled to a cold temperature, it goes down smoothly. Drinking it while warm, however, the drink becomes very thick for soda. Cold is a must. The largest problem with taste is that it's not always consistent, and depends on the factory it ships from. Every drink has its flaws; but I still recommend trying Monster if you have not already. (Monster Import improves where the original failed -- buy that if possible.)
Value Rating: 5/10
Your normal, 16 oz. Monster is generally found for around $2-$2.50. Nothing special, not too expensive, but not cheap. However, there are quite a few flavors to choose from, and all but the original (Nitrous, X-Presso, Import, etc.) are usually found for a slightly inflated price of $3-$3.50. What the deuce?

Best Energy Drink #4 - Rockstar
Party like a Rockstar.
Energy Rating: 7/10
Packing a similar punch to the previously reviewed drink, this energy blend is enough to carry you for a few more hours of Counter-Strike, which I reference because I'm pretty sure if you were "partying like a rockstar" you wouldn't need an energy drink in the first place. Being the caffeine abuser that I am, this drink doesn't make me bounce off the walls, but the kick is hard enough to be felt (in a good way).
Taste Rating: 7/10
The taste has been described as "carbonated cotton candy" before. I can see that making sense, because it is a pretty sugary drink. This isn't a bad thing, however, and this doesn't take away from the overall taste of said drink. As most energy drinks are, Rockstar is best served chilled, but still remains drinkable when warm. The lemonade flavor is non-carbonated (and tastes like lemonade, imagine that) and is great for those who don't enjoy soda. The original flavor is, of course, a great drink for all of my fellow energy drink junkies. Party like a Rockstar.
Value Rating: 7/10
All of the cans are 16 oz., and run from around $2-$2.50, like your average energy drink. This is nothing special, not good and not bad.

Do I need to say it? Scroll to the bottom. Buy what you see... but I guess you could buy Rockstar, too. If you're going to party like a rockstar though, I should be invited.
Best Energy Drink #3 - Java Monster
(The coffee ones.)
Energy Rating: 7/10
The energy I get from Monster's Java drinks isn't really any more or less than the traditional Monster. In fact, the energy blend is nearly the same. Therefore, the rating is maintained.
Taste Rating: 9/10
Loca Moca - the king of coffee. This is Monster's best drink in my opinion. It's a smooth flavor, and it goes down just as smoothly. Not too thick, and it tastes like heaven (assuming you can taste heaven). I'm not a coffee drinker, and Monster isn't my favorite, but this will forever be a morning drink of choice for me. The taste makes you feel sophisticated and important, and is also excellent for those who want energy without drinking sugary soda. This drink = WIN.
Value Rating: 7/10
This drink can, once again, be found for around $2 - $2.50. It's totally worth the money.

Best Energy Drink #2 - Venom

Energy Rating: 8.5/10
The caffeine content of Venom energy drinks is roughly 162 mg per bottle. Pretty average. It has the traditional energy blend ingredients, along with some different ingredients that I'm sure do something profound. I know they're effective, because this drink pumps me up, and gets me ready for a long night full of video games and/or paintball. I don't experience the crash that accompanies some energy drinks, either. Football, baseball, BMX, whatever your drug of choice is, this is one of the better ways to get hyped and get ready. With a Venom.
Taste Rating: 9/10
Venom is an energy drink with its own distinct taste. While all of the flavors are diverse, and taste different, you always know when you're drinking a Venom. There isn't a single Venom flavor out right now that I don't like, they're all delicious, and they go down very smoothly. Strangely, I've noticed that they also all smell really good. I want some Venom cologne... and maybe some caffeinated gum or something. This flavor is very unique, and you haven't lived 'til you've tried it.
Value Rating: 9/10
Venom comes in the COOLEST CANS EVER! The cap on top is a nice touch, the thick aluminum makes it feel like a higher quality, and the graphics look incredible. Yet it's all the same price as your average energy drink... The thick aluminum bottle also keeps your drink colder, and for longer periods of time.
Buy it in individual cans here, at TilaTech. They're a very reliable company. I order from them frequently and have never had problems.

Best Energy Drink #1 - Bawls Guarana
King Of All LAN Parties
Energy Rating: 10/10
Bawls, by far, gives the most energy, far surpassing the competition. You don't become jittery. You don't begin to feel nauseous. You just feel more awake. You feel alert, you're ready for action. Yet you don't crash later. You don't regret drinking it. The primary energy ingredient in these drinks is not caffeine, though that is an ingredient. As opposed to the 160 mg of caffeine in most drinks, a 16 oz. can of Bawls has only 100 mg. The 10 oz. bottle contains only around 65 mg.They rely mainly on guarana, along with some other ingredients that do the trick without being too terribly sugary. Bawls gives meaning to the term, "energy drink."

The smoothest energy drink on the market, it leaves no bitter aftertaste, and is the drink of choice at any LAN party for that specific reason. Believe me when I say, you'll always want another bottle. All of the flavors are perfect; they even have a truly healthy drink (Exxtra) with no HFCS or chemicals. I speak the truth... and the best part, it still tastes amazing.
Value Rating: 10/10
The bottles look great, and are very practical with their bumps enhancing your grip, not letting you drop that precious drink. Aside from appearance, it's offered in two sizes, which is very convenient. The flavors all cost the same thing... and I found them on TilaTech for the crazy price of less than $2! Bawls, we love you!

Example - A 16oz. can of Monster has about 160mg of caffeine. An 8oz. can of Red Bull has about 80mg. On average, popular energy drinks have about 10mg of caffeine per fluid ounce.
So while you may have thought Bawls had a high caffeine content, the actual caffeine content is only around 6.25mg per oz.
