The Best Sloppy Joes Recipe Is Quick, Easy, Economical, Nutritious and Delicious

Sloppy Joes. YUM. That is what I think when I think of our family's Best-Ever Sloppy Joes Recipe. It is fast and easy and devoured by every member of our family with absolutely no reservations and plenty of enthusiasm!

The name Sloppy Joes may sound awful to you but the recipe is for a wonderfully delicious comfort food that is perfect for a quick and easy dinner which also happens to be easy on the pocketbook. This version is actually a bit more nutritious than many sloppy joes because it has the addition of bell peppers and corn.

Just how fast is this recipe, Brenda? Well assuming you have basic cooking skills, you should be able to get this meal onto the supper table in about 25 minutes.

And how many will it serve? The recipe makes four servings. That is enough for the four hungry members of our family although it does not make enough for leftovers for us or for seconds or thirds. (I have two teenage boys, it is possible that they would have seconds and thirds.) After writing up the leftover recommendations further down on this page, I have decided that the next time I make this recipe I will be doubling it. Once you are familiar with this recipe, you just might decide to do the same!

Amazon Customer Review:

G. Schroeder says that Rachel Ray's pan is perfect for families because it holds enough to feed up to six hungry people and because it has high sides that keep sauces like sloppy joes in and keep grease from splattering when you are frying. She says that nothing sticks to it and closes with, "If you cook for more than two people, you shouldn't have to live without this skillet."

What Exactly Is A Sloppy Joe?

Wikipedia has a pretty basic definition of a sloppy joe. They say that "a sloppy joe is an American dish of ground beef, onions, sweetened tomato sauce or ketchup and other seasonings, served on a hamburger bun." I would say that that is a pretty good definition; a little different but very similar to my recipe.

Sloppy Joe Information, History & Recipes

An Ode to Sloppy Joe, a Delicious Mess by the Myriad Restaurant Group
An Ode to Sloppy Joe, a Delicious Mess -- Some foods are memory triggers, meals that send you back to long-forgotten moments in your life. The sloppy Joe sandwich is one such time machine.
Where Sloppy Is Neat - The New York Times
To the rest of the country a sloppy Joe is that war horse of school cafeterias, ground beef drowned in a sweet tomato sauce and served on a roll. But in North Jersey it is a huge sandwich, which serves at least three, made with a variety of meats on three layers of thinly sliced rye, bound with Russian dressing and laced with cole slaw.
Sloppy Joe Recipe For Homemade Sloppy Joe Sauce
Sloppy Joes are primarily a hot dinnertime sandwich which is a favorite of most U.S. teens today. And since it does not require much preparation, it is also a favorite of working mothers and others who do not have much time on their hands, but need to come up with a scrumptious dinner.

A sloppy joe is called 'sloppy' because it can be very messy to eat. When you eat it...well, if you eat it as a sandwich...the contents tend to spring out from all sides! Some people, myself included, prefer to eat this dish open faced and with a fork and knife!

Every recipe should come with recommendations for leftovers! For this recipe, you can use the leftover sloppy joes mix on potatoes, in tortillas or in tacos. It would be well worth doubling the recipe in order to have leftovers!

The meat mixture will keep in the freezer for about three months. You could either freeze a whole batch or freeze it in individual portions and defrost as required.

A Final Word About The Best-Ever Sloppy Joes Recipe

In my opinion, the best Sloppy Joes meal is served just like the one in the very first picture on this page:

The meat mixture is served open faced on two delicious, toasted buns with a wonderful mixed salad. (Because there are teenage boys in my home, the salad often becomes a caesar salad, which is very good, too.)
