Best exercises to lose weight (by calories burned)

The best exercise to lose weight is largely a matter of preference. There is a best overall, but if you don't enjoy it, it may be hard to maintain.
I've listed the top exercises and how many calories they burn per hour (for different body weights) Even if you weigh more or less than the range I've given, it's easy to compare and decide the most enjoyable, highest calorie burning workout for you.
There are lists of high energy daily activities too (if you wanna kill two birds with one stone!)

The most effective exercises

What is the most effective exercise? Swimming burns a lot of calories, is an ALL body exercise AND is low impact (almost NO wear and tear to your joints, bones and ligaments), how much better can you get?
Well, maybe you hate swimming, can't swim, don't feel comfortable in swimwear, have a condition which would make it dangerous to be in water, are sensitive to chlorine, dont have a pool or you DO have a pool but there is a shark or alligator in it. Good thing there are a lot of other exercises up there with swimming when it comes to burning calories! (For a 130 lb person doing the butterfly stroke swimming burns 650 calories an hour, for a 200 lb person, it burns ~1000! Of course, depending on the persons technique and fitness level, it will vary)

Heres a short list in order of general availability:

Running (5 mph)......................475 - 750
(950cal/hr for 130lb people and 1500 for 200lb folks, all results will be for this range)

Running (7.5 mph)...................700 - 1080

Running (10+ mph)..................1055 - 1645

Carrying 50lbs uphill................500 - 800

Cycling (12+ mph)....................475 - 745

Cycling (20+ mph)....................950 - 1500

Swimming (freestyle)...............575 - 890

Water Polo..................................625 - 925

Boxing (put up yer dukes)........450 - 900

Karate..........................................650 - 980

Rock Climbing...........................650 - 1000

Cross Country skiing................475 - 745

Skiing UPHILL...........................950 - 1500!!
(cross country skiing, as opposed to downhill uphill skiing ha ha ha)

Crew (rowing)............................600 - 1000
