How To Choose a Good Foundation For Oily Skin

A good foundation for oily skin is a foundation that doesn't have oil in it. You should always look first and see if the label says "oil free". Products that have oil in them, will clog the pores, make the skin look worse, and by that i mean dirty looking and greasy and eventually lead to breakouts and blackheads. A foundation with an "oil free" label is water based and therefore is more friendly to this type of skin.

Foundation can be found in different forms: liquid, stick, powder, creme and mineral. The liquid foundation works best for oily skin. It blends well, covers breakouts and blackheads and does a better job when it comes to oil production. Stick foundation tends to look a bit like a mask, harder to apply and looks dirty and heavy when the skin begins to shine. Powder foundation is also a foundation that is not so easy to apply, i like to compare it to buying shampoo plus conditioner in one - it is simply not the same as buying each one apart. The best combination is to buy a good liquid foundation and a good clear oil blotting powder. Mineral foundation comes also in a powdery form and unfortunately doesn't give a good coverage. The coverage is very light and the pores, which are usually large and open when you have oily skin, are not covered well.

To sum things up, find a liquid moisturizer, and we have a list of recommendations below, that is oil free, blends well with your skin (test it on your face and not only on your hand since the skin color is often different). Make sure to apply it after washing your face with a good cleanser for oily skin and applying an oil free moisturizer. Use your fingers (clean fingers! we don't need more breakouts) or a sponge to apply the foundation. After a minute or two, powder the t-zone area with a clear oil blotting powder to get that matte look.

Oily Skin Foundation Review

Revlon Colorstay for Combo/Oily Skin Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 6, Sand Beige
This is a great foundation, little bit more pricey ($12.99) but delivers great results. I know a lot of people preferred the older version of this product, that didn't contain SoftFlex, but still, this is one of the best foundations on the market. It's coverage is slightly better than the Max Factor foundation, it stays matte for long hours, though the Max Factor performs better in that category. It doesn't cause breakout or clog pores.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation

If you have read a bit on foundations on the Internet, you must have seen a lot of recommendations on this product. This is not by accident, this is a great foundation that has many fans in the oily skin care "community", as i like to call it. It is oil free, gives beautiful coverage, doesn't clog the pores and stays put for long hours. It is a bit pricey, but worth every penny.
Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation - Warm Ivory ( For Fair to Light Skin Tones ) 29ml/1oz

Clarins Truly Matte Foundation Light Reflecting SPF15

This is another great product. It has an anti-shine solution which helps to control the shine for hours and this is why we love it! It gives medium coverage and comes in eight different shades. It is easy to hide breakout and blemishes with this one and the outcome is even and natural when applied with fingers. Not less important, it has spf 15, which is really good for us light skin girls, but recommended for everyone, because we all know how harmful the sun is.

Illuminare Ultimate All Day Foundation Concealer Florentine Fair

This is an oil absorbing matte finish makeup. We recommend it because it doesn't block pores. It provides medium coverage and keeps the skin shine free and natural looking. What special about this foundation is that it actually doesn't require additional powder or blotting after applying. Although it comes on a small tube, you will be surprised to find out that it lasts a very long time because applying it requires small amounts.

The Illuminare & Clarins foundations are two of the BEST! Very long lasting, and don't succumb to oil for about 4 hours after application. A personal fave of mine is Estee Lauder Max Cover Foundation. It's very high pigment, yet light weight. A tiny drop covers any imperfection in its tracks (freckles, acne, hyperpigmentation) and you don't even need concealer underneath. This miracle makeup is even waterproof! If you swim with it on, just blot face dry with a towel ? don't rub, and your face will look about 90% the same as it did when you got in the water. Try our Mattify! Loose Powder to wear under foundation too. It helps prevent pore blockage and keeps even more oiliness away.

although these products may work, where I live it is very hard to find my skin color. I am a black women and there are a lot of good foundation, it is very hard to find the right color for me. Either it is too dark or too light, or they don't carry dark colors at all.
