Best Gaming Desktops Under $1000
Ranked #55 in Computers & Electronics, #647 overall
Gaming Desktop Computers Under $1000
These systems have the power to run modern games, but don't quite pack the powerhouse requirements needed for uber-applications, so in a sense, they are great at what they do, that is gaming, and can also be pretty useful in everyday tasks as well.
Each desktop is in a perfect balance between the specs and the price tag, so you do get the best bang for your buck.
Why is this a great gamers choice?
So let's have a look at the basic specs:
The Intel Core i7-2600 Processor is a very fast processor type which will allow you to run even the most modern games and handle intensive applications flawlessly.
With 8GB DDR3 Memory you know any application you might throw at the system won't slow it down any time soon. 8GBof RAM is enough to pretty much run anything, and will be great if you multitask at times.
1.5TB SATA Hard Drive Now even if you're the worst type of media addict out there, this hard drive won't run short of storage space anytime soon. Also, you can pretty much install all the games that hit the market and still be left with plenty of space.
With an ATI Radeon HD 6750 Graphics Card you will have enough visual power to experience true gaming bliss. Seriously, this is one of the top notch graphics cards today, so any game you throw at it, you can pretty much crank up the detail lever to max.
Customer Commented:
"This is an amazingly fast and powerful computer. It processes high definition video or rips through RAW files in Photoshop like they were JPEGs. It easily handles the latest high-end games. The Intel Core i7-2600 Processor and the ATI Radeon HD 6750 Graphics Card are both well regarded. Not bleeding edge, but far more power then almost anyone needs."

Customer Commented:
This Microtel Gaming computer surpassed all of my expectations. I had been looking at various gaming computers for months before finding this. I had found many computer with equivalent specs but all of them were over $1,000. I was surprised at the specs, 12 GB of ddr3 RAM, a 1 GB graphics card with Directx11, and a massive 1 TB HDD. My first thought was that it was "too good to be true" but after buying this i have changed my mind. I'm able to shadowbox 2 World of Warcraft screens at max graphics and 16X anti aliasing. I can also play Dragon age II and Left4Dead (1 and 2) on max graphics settings.

I have been buying the Elite machines from HP since the concept was introduced and this model is the best one yet. Does what it is supposed to do and does it well. [...] . All my programs run really fast including games. I play Rift on High settings and I get decent frame rates.

Best Gamer's Choice Comes From Alienware
Alienware AX51-0066BK Desktop
Amazon Price: $978.98 (as of 05/28/2012)![]()
So what's installed on this Alienware gaming PC?
There's an Intel quad-core processor, which is a very fast CPU from Intel and is more than recommended to use whilst playing any modern game computer game. It's fast and reliable so you won't need to worry about meeting some system requirements new games have.
There's also about 8 GB of installed DDR3 RAM, which again is a great spec in terms of gaming desktops. Since the computer has a lot of kick from the processor already, the amount of installed memory will help run things as smooth as possible.
Last on the list would be the NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 graphics processors (with 1.0 GB of DDR5 video memory) equipped with the latest industry leading technologies, including NVIDIA 3D Vision, NVIDIA PhysX, and DirectX 11. That's is trully a gaming rig configuration from a graphics stand point, so you can crank up the detail level to any game in the high setting without any problem.

- An i7 won't enhance performance for gameplay much over an i5. Also having 12GB of RAM is ridiculous unless you're working in video editing. Very few games if any can take advantage of that much RAM currently.

- Make sure when you are buying prebuilt that they don't solder anything on. The practice isn't as common now-a-days as it used to be but it still crops up every now and then, specially in the budget lines.
