I grew up with the idea that if you were ill, you should consult your doctor and take the medicine. It wasn't until I turned forty that I discovered an alternative (natural, holistic (mind/body) medicine).
My decision to take responsibility for my health was the turning point that saved me from a crippling disease and a life of poverty.
Having spent a great deal of time researching and trying different kinds of alternative therapy myself, I am keenly aware of the importance of timely and accurate information.

Most sick people often go with the type of therapy which is best supported by family and friends (not to mention insurance coverage), simply because it is the easiest thing to do.
Many people with conditions that are not life-threatening, or who are simply interested in prevention, also want information on alternative medicine. I thought that if I could help even one person to prevent or ease their illness by sharing the results of my research, it would be a worthwhile effort.
Alternative, complementary and holistic therapies are a very controversial subject. I intend not to prejudice this web page with my own opinions, and just put the information out there.
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about alternative therapies:
1) What is Alternative Medicine?
In general, alternative medicine is the use of medicine or techniques not part of standard training for orthodox medical doctors. This is a very diverse field, which includes but is not limited to:
- Ayurveda
- Acupuncture
- Aromatherapy
- Herbal medicines
- Hypnotherapy
- Naturopathy
- Light and Color Therapy
- Nutritional supplementation
- Gentle exercise (yoga and qi gong)
- Hands-on body work (such as massage, and skeletal adjustment)
Some alternative therapies are "holistic". They treat the whole body and mind. Their focus is on prevention and treating the root cause, rather than symptoms. A holistic treatment would include nutritional management, physical manipulation (skeletal adjustments and/or massage...), herbal medicine and counseling.
2) Why use Alternative Medicine?
It is not always an either/or choice between main-stream(conventional) medicine and alternative medicine. There are many treatments and therapies which are complementary. They can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine, and increase the effectiveness of each.
In some situations however, alternative therapies can be less invasive, and/or more effective than orthodox treatments. In this country, medicine is very big business, and procedures or medicines which are not patentable or profitable are rejected.
Research and treatments used in other countries which are more open-minded to these types of therapies are often extremely successful. On the side of caution, it is important to keep in mind that alternative therapies can also be profit-oriented.
Therefor always use your own judgment, armed with as much information as possible.
3) Where can I find a local practitioner?
There are many ways to find practitioners:
- Listed in the yellow pages of a telephone directory.
- In the local library and in local information websites.
- They advertise in local newspapers and in local health food shops.
- You can also find links to Alternative Medicine on the Web.
4) How much does it cost?
As with mainstream medicine, costs can vary considerably with the practitioner or clinic. Independent practitioners doing consultation or hands-on body work are often in the range of $50 to $75 per visit. Herbal, homeopathic, or nutritional supplements would be additional.
Clinics and "retreats" have a much broader range of fees. Vitamin and herbal supplements can also vary considerably in cost. See web mail-order sources.
5) Are alternative therapies coverd by insurance?
Some services are covered by insurance, many are not. If you are considering buying health insurance for the first time or switching your provider, ask about coverage of alternative health care.

I am not a psychic, but, based on what I have learned so far, I'm going to predict your future with 100% accuracy!
How can I possibly do that????????????????????????????????? It's very simple.
Here it is: If you keep THINKING what you are thinking, you will keep DOING what you are doing, and you will keep GETTING what you are getting.
In other words, what you are experiencing NOW and in the FUTURE is the result of your previous thoughts. Your future is predetermined by your thoughts in this and every moment. So, if you want to change your future, you must change what you are thinking about in this moment.
If I can convince you to do that, I predict you will have a healthy and happy future.
* You Are What You Eat???
You mat be familiar with the saying: "You are what you eat!" However it would be more accurate to say: You are what you can absorb by way of:
-Nutrients from the foods & drinks you consume
-Good or bad vibrations from the people around you
-The activities you habitually do
-And the places you frequent
In other words - you are what you eat, drink, breathe and think - and - the locations where you work, rest and play (more about this further down the page).
* The First Step
The first thing to change is to start taking responsibility. You can investigate the many different ways you can heal your ailments by reading books, surfing the web, taking part in online alternative health forums and by consulting alternative, complementary and holistic health professionals. 1. Write down all the things that you would like to do if you were healthy.
2. For each one write down why.
3. Read this list to yourself each night before bed and again each morning.
4. Do this each day with faith that your mental and physical health will improve.

Become a health magnet
We all know that magnetism attracts, but many people don't know how to attract good health & prosperity. Your thoughts play an important role - and the geology of the locations where you work, rest and play. (More about this further down the page)
Feng Shui is based on a deep understanding of the interplay of natural geomagnetic forces, and how to get them on your side. It can take many years to attain a degree of competence in these matters; therefore it makes good sense to consult an experienced practitioner.

I have found that the symptoms of poor health have an underlying cause that is often overlooked by conventional medics, which results in many patients becoming dependent on potentially dangerous and expensive medications or surgery.

The World Health Organisation has coined the terms "Stress - The Silent Killer" and "Sick Building Syndrome" to describe an unhealthy environment.
In a previous article I mentioned that anyone who works, rests or plays in a Geopathic Stress Zone will eventually develop some kind chronic ailment--the most common being CFS and arthritis.
Stress can come from many well known sources. However the least understood source of relentless stress is originates from deep underground. I am referring to geomagnetic disturbances which is commonly referred to as 'Geopathic Stress'. You can learn more about this in my 'Location' article further down the page.

The trouble with orthodox medical practice is that it focuses on treating the symptoms of an ailment, while holistic medical practitioners treat the whole person (body, mind and spirit) in order to detect and heal the root cause of an ailment.

It is not always an either/or choice between main-stream(conventional) medicine and alternative medicine. There are many treatments and therapies which are complementary. They can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine, and increase the effectiveness of each.

* Alternative Healing Examples:
1. When I was suffering from eczema I tried many pills and potions before I found the ultimate solution. While surfing the Internet I followed a link to digestive health, where I learned the cause and cure for my eczema...
It appears that my digestive system was congested and that toxins were trying to escape through the pores of my skin, resulting in an itchy rash. The remedy was to detoxify by cleansing my internal organs...
Within a weak of cutting out sugar and dairy products from my diet, the rash had faded--after two weeks it had gone with no more itching.
2. My uncle was in good health until he moved to a new house. Within a few days he began to experience lower back pain and extreme fatigue. Numerous doctors couldn't diagnose the cause, but they could prescribe painkillers and anti-depressants.
After a while he consulted a traditional Chinese Medic, and was referred to a Feng Shui practitioner who diagnosed that his bed was in an insecure position. After moving the bed to a safer location, his pain and fatigue gradually faded and eventually disappeared.

one of the main keys to vibrant health.
It all starts with a key question. Given that you have free choice: "What is the most exciting thing that I could possibly be doing right now to improve my health?"
In order to by-pass the critic in your head, try asking that key question
before you fall asleep tonight. That way, your inner possibilities can come forward into your conscious mind without being filtered out.
* Take Action
Find a way to do that most exciting possibility. Ask yourself: "What steps can I take to make it a reality?" Write them down as they come into your head over the next few days, then go over the list and prioritize.
You have already taken a positive step by reading this, and hopefully you will find something that interests you.
Many famous people in history have demonstrated that there is no situation so hopeless, no challenge so big and no problem so frightening, that you can't overcome it with a proper perspective, heart-felt hope and a sense of purpose.
The imagined discomfort of making changes is always greater than the experience of doing something differently. Therefore it is better to focus on the advantages and to keep reminding yourself in imaginative ways.
* Obstacles to Change
What usually gets in the way of making improvements are a busy schedule, self limiting beliefs and negative attitudes like skepticism, fear and or a lack of self- esteem. So maybe you need professional help to get the best results.
Many people are now turning to alternative, complementary and holistic healing methods such as naturopathy and traditional Chinese medicine to resolve their physical ailments. * For example ... "Drink 8 glasses a day." Now, that may look like sound advice, but further analysis shows it's an overly simplified "wives tail." To be more blunt: "8 glasses a day" is actually a well established urban legend.
As recently revealed by the American Journal of Physiology, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to support the popular 8-glasses-a-day theory. What's needed is real scientific information and not half-truths. What we do know is that "8 glasses a day" by itself is not good advice.
* First, you need to drink water regularly throughout the day. Drinking 8 glasses in in succession is actually dangerous. You should, in fact, hydrate every single hour. Many people who simply take up the habit of drinking a glass or even half a glass every hour notice their energy levels skyrocket.
Why? Because most of us are chronically dehydrated. If you don't think you are, try what I'm advising here for 48 hours and see what happens. Again, this is a statistically valid "safe bet." Another safe bet: your tired all the time and you can't figure out why.
* Dehydration making you tired? You bet.

- Chronic fatigue
- Impotence
- Hair loss
- Headaches
- Low back pain
- Constipation

Before you start gulping down, you need to know that "how much" depends on a lot of factors. It depends on your body size, how much you exercise, the climate in which you live, and more ... But drinking more water by itself is enough, but if you drink too much you can actually "overdose" on water.
It sounds crazy, but there was even a widely publicized case where people were "holding their wee for Nintendo Wii" for a radio contest. The contestants were ordered to drink a high volume of water and hold their "wee" for as long as they could. One of the contestants died as a result.
True story. Too much water can harm you by either "water intoxication" (as the above Wii casulty, may she rest in peace) or by "electrolyte" imbalance. Ah, electrolytes ... Check this:
The more water you drink, the more you need to replace your electrolytes. But before you go thinking you need to purchase some expensive "electrolyte replacement" sports drinks, here's the real deal:
All you have to do is add a tiny pinch of sea salt to every gallon of filtered drinking water you drink and - you have all the electrolytes you need.
If you were simply to apply what I have shown you so far my "safe bet" is that you'd see a pretty significant bump in your energy. Did you know that cow's milk contains many allergens, saturated fat and cholesterol?
You've probably heard (from the Dairy Industry) that milk is Mother Nature's perfect food. That is true, but only for a calves until they're weaned!
It contributes to ill health in many different ways. Here is a clip from the "Townsend Medical Letter", May, 1995, by Julie Klotter, MD
"In reality, cow's milk, especially processed cow's milk, has been linked to a variety of health problems, because it produces excessive mucous in thestomach, which adversely affects digestion.
Dairy products may play a major role in the development of allergies, asthma, acne, sleep difficulties and migraine headaches--skin rash and cholic in bottle fed babies."

There are cows milk alternatives such as almond and rice milk. There is some controversy about the benefits of soy milk, so I can't recommend it.
* Osteoporosis
Milk is said to prevent osteoporosis, yet clinical research shows otherwise.
The Harvard Nurses' Health Study, which followed more than 75,000 women for 12 years, showed no protective effect of increased milk consumption.
In fact, increased intake of calcium from dairy products was associated with a higher fracture risk.
You can decrease your risk of osteoporosis by reducing sodium, sugar, dairy and animal protein in your diet, while increasing your intake of beans, whole-grain cereals (with almond milk), fruits and vegetables (and their juices).
Exercising, and ensuring adequate calcium intake from plant foods such as almond nuts and leafy greens, especially sprouted barley grass juice.

According to the World Health Organization, unresolved stress is the 'Silent Killer' and finding quick ways to manage stress will help keep you sane and healthy. When I'm feeling overwhelmed I turn to these calming techniques:1. Walk Away
Know your triggers. If a conversation about global warming, consumerism, or the trash crisis is overwhelming you, simply excuse yourself. My Grandmother knew her trigger points, and before it was too late, she simply put one foot in front of another and walked away.
2. Close Your Eyes
Gently let the outer world disappear and go within to regain your equilibrium. Over the past few years I've become aware of how important it is for the health of our nervous system.
3. Solitude
This can be challenging if you are at work or at home with kids. But we all need some private time to rest our nervous system. Be creative and find your space any which way you can.
4. Go Outside
This is a lifesaver! I get outside for at least an hour every day to regain my sanity. It helps me to unwind and I often get inspirational ideas when I'm away from the hustle and bustle.
5. Find Some Water
It often amazes me how the sight, sounds and feel of running water can soothe my nerves. Water helps in many ways--it helps to keep us clean--inside and out. I drink a glass of it every hour between meals.
I often walk beside the river, look at it and listen to it. Get into some if you can, for a shower, bath or a swim. Hot tubs and hot springs are popular for good reasons. On the rainy days I often watch and listen to the rain, or take a shower, imagining that I am in a tropical rain forest.
6. Breathe Deeply
Breathing provide our brain and all our vital organs with the oxygen we need to survive. Breathing also eliminates toxins from our blood via the lungs.
Years ago, I learned the "Four Square" method of breathing to reduce anxiety:
1. Breathe in slowly to a count of four.
2. Hold the breath for a count of four.
3. Exhale slowly through pursed lips to a count of four.
4. Rest for a count of four (without taking any breaths).
5. Take two normal breaths.
6. Start over again.
7. Listen to Music
Across the ages, music has been used to soothe and relax. During the worst months of my depression, I blared the soundtrack of "The Phantom of the Opera." Pretending to be the phantom with a cape and a mask, I twirled around our living room, swinging my kids in my arms. I belted out every word of "The Music of the Night."
"Softly, deftly, music shall caress you, Feel it, hear it, secretly possess you...."
The gorgeous song--like all good music--could stroke that tender place within me that words couldn't get to.

The sound you DON'T hear is the thwack of 60 million bottles a day being tossed into U.S. landfills, where they can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade.
If that's not enough to turn your conscience a brighter shade of green, add this: Producing those bottles burns through 1.5 million barrels of crude oil annually--enough fuel to keep 100,000 cars running for a year.
Recycling helps but reusing is even better. Invest in a couple of portable, dishwasher safe, stainless steel bottles that won't leach nasty chemicals into your water. (Avoid refilling the water bottle you just emptied; the polyethylene terephthalate it's made of breaks down over time.)
3 Reasons to Turn on the Tap
1. Tap water is tested daily
Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, water suppliers are required to provide an annual report on the quality of your local water and to test tap water daily. By comparison, the FDA examines bottled water only weekly, and consumers can't get the agency's results.
2. Tap water is a bargain
Bottled water costs about 500 times more than tap. If you're into really fancy labels, up to 1,000 times more.
3. Tap water is often tasty
Some places (New York City for one) have delicious water, but if you don't love the flavor of yours, the solution is simple: Run your tap water through a Brita or Pur filter to remove most tastes and odors.
The average home filter goes for $8.99 and produces the equivalent of 300 large (16.9 ounce) bottles of water. That's about $0.03 cents a bottle, versus the $1.25 or so you'd pay in a market.
One last thing: Don't just think about making this switch; actually do it. Today. It does the world and you a lot of good. Plus, allowing nagging, unfinished tasks (known as NUTs) to go undone can make you years older!
