Best Highly Scented Candles

Ranked #5,008 in Home & Garden, #74,479 overall

Best scented candles yet? You bet!!

It would be funny to know how many scented candles I've burnt in my life. Can't help it, I love the flame and the glow of the burning candle, not to mention the scent and the intimate atmosphere the lit scented candles add to the ambiance.

And while some of the scented candles can be quite overwhelmingly "smelly," there are others that are just perfect, with aroma powerful enough that it's noticeable and not so strong that it feels too much.

Just recently I received two of these chunky handmade candles as a gift and I am now proclaiming them "the best highly scented candles" I've ever come across. They burn wonderfully, hardly ever run, look beautiful and smell divine... Check them out for yourself!

Guava scented candles

guava scented candles

The first time we vacationed on the garden Island of Hawaii the whole family was amazed by the flowers and the exotic scents. The guava scent was one of my favorites as was the Island of Kauai.

As my Daughter Richelle got older she started making pillar scented candles. She always remembered the guava scented tree outside in Kauai and it quickly became a favorite of the family. Every time she made these guava scented candles the smell would transport us back to Hawaii. We would start talking about the trip and all the memories.

Anyone that came to our home would comment on the smell as being so fresh and smooth. If Richelle was making guava scented candles they said they could smell it way before they reached our door.

Most of the people we know have also been to Hawaii so they would start telling us how the guava scent reminded them of the wonderful smells of Hawaii.

I love when my Daughter is making handmade scented candles. Many times I will stop whatever I am doing to help her and it becomes a great family bonding experience.

Now I never have to go out and buy scented candles; we just make them at home. And since, the guava scent is one of our favorites; we might make it more often than any other sent.

Guava scent

guava scent

Guava scent is aromatic, fruity and light - tropical and that's why guava scented candles easily become favorites with candle-makers as well as with those who burn guava scented candle for the first time. The guava aroma is fresh and settled and at the same time sophisticated. It magically scents the whole home and everyone seems to enjoy it while taking deeper breaths and looking for the source of this attractive scent.

My neighbor once gave me a few guava fruits and the same thing happened: Our home smelled really nice - until I ate all the guavas. Someone said that guava scent reminds of the smell of lemon rind - except that it's not as sharp.

This is the Guava fruit. From green, the fruit ripens to yellow. The Guava is still one of the biggest selling jam or jelly. Don't you wish you have a toast with guava jam with your hot cup of coffee?

Guava trees are cultivated for their fragrant edible fruits in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Guavas are eaten raw, in desserts, they are extensively used to make candies, preserves, jellies, jams and marmalades for their high pectin content - or squeezed into juices. Red guava fruits can also be used in sauces to substitute tomatoes. Guava tree leaves are also used in many ways.

Burning candle the safe way

best highly scented candles

Burning candle - scented or non scented - the safe way is the only way to enjoy the open flame. Here are some tips:

  • when burning candle, place it on a level, non-flammable candle holder, not directly on linens or furnishings

  • when you first light your candle, trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch and then burn it for 3.5 to 4 hours

  • subsequently, burn your candle for no longer than 2 to 3 hours at the time and always keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 of an inch

  • clear out any debris that may have accumulated in the candle well

  • lit candles should be kept away from drafts (like windows and fans) and flammable things (like curtains)

  • burning candle should not be left unattended (pets and children do not count as candle supervisors!)

Jasmine scented candles

jasmine scented candles

A few years ago we had our front yard landscaped. Well, the landscaping was finished the day we came home from a short trip.

When we got out of the car and walked up our walkway to the front door we were greeted with jasmine scent. Jasmine lined the walkway and all across the front of the house. Of course we loved it! We could smell it from inside the house even with the doors closed.

My daughter Richelle's bedroom window was located at the front of the house and the jasmine aroma filled her room.
As she makes jasmine scented candles she remembers the way our house smelled; filled with the jasmine aroma from all the plants lining the walkway.

Now when her friends from her school days come over to buy her candles they reminisce about how her room was filled with the jasmine aroma from the plants outside her window.

Making pillar scented candles has helped her in so many ways. This has been a great hobby that she loves so much that it has turned into much, much, more than just making pillar scented candles. She puts her love and gratitude into each one. It is a joy to watch her making them.

Richelle learned by reading books and changing the candle making recipes to be her own. Through trial and error she has now developed her very own recipe for handmade scented candles. Just like the jasmine scent, each scented candle brings back memories.

These handmade candles are made with love by Richelle.

Jasmine scent

jasmine scent

Exotic, sensual jasmine scent has been for centuries associated with inner feelings and aspirations.

Used to enhance one's mood and as an aphrodisiac, intensely floral with a feminine modesty, jasmine scent has been also known to relieve melancholy, to purify the emotions and provide strength in matters of spiritual love and money.

Last but not least, jasmine scent is supposed to be a perfect match to meditation and contemplation - and to soothe one's Inner-Self.

Jasmine plant is native to India.

White Jasmine
I planted a Lakeview Jasmine 3 years ago. This is the first year that the tree has bloomed continuously. It's only about 5 feet tall now. The perfume from the jasmine blossoms is awesome. The bees love it too. It is tropical dwarf tree (grows up to 15 feet maximum) and it's evergreen and blooms on-and-off all year around.

Citrus Paradise scented candles

Best highly scented candles with a hint of citrus, fresh and dreamy like Hawaiian air

citrus paradise best highly scented candles

When we make Candles we have so many choices to choose from for our scents. We really enjoy the clean soft sent of citrus paradise.

One way I can explain this is we used to make a scent called Hawaiian Paradise. When we went to buy the Hawaiian Paradise scent, the store had replaced it with citrus paradise so we decided to try it.

Hawaiian Paradise smells like the air in Hawaii. When you first walk off the plane into the airport you can smell it. I like to think that is what Heaven on earth smells like.

Citrus paradise smells just like Hawaiian Paradise with a hint of citrus. I really don't know which one I like the best. They both bring the memories of Hawaii as if I am there. There are citrus trees in Hawaii also, so it is mixed into the blends of scents in the air as you drive or walk around the Island.

When we make Candles we have so many choices to choose from for our scents. We really enjoy the clean soft sent of citrus paradise.

I can light a candle, close my eyes and feel just like I am in Hawaii again.

I understand why people like to buy the handmade scented candles; a dreamy bath with a nice handmade scented candle can transport you to another place far away.

A home really feels cozy and warm when you enter even before lighting the candle. The scent of your choice has filled the room and is inviting you in with a feeling of relaxation and we all need that at the end of the day.

The joy of lighting a citrus paradise handmade scented candle when you arrive home from work and have a few moments to unwind feels very luxurious. Yes, different scents bring back different memories. Just pick the scent of your favorite memories and relax.

A candle burning in space

Some interesting facts about flames in microgravity

Photo above - of a candle burning in space - courtesy of google images

It's very obvious from the photo above that candle burning in space looks very different than candle flame in normal gravity conditions.

In microgravity or zero gravity environment, the flame becomes spherical, with a tendency to become bluer and more efficient. Most likely explanation is the hypothesis that the temperature is sufficiently evenly distributed that soot is not formed and complete combustion occurs.

Experiments by NASA reveal that diffusion flames in microgravity allow more soot to be completely oxidized after they are produced than do diffusion flames on Earth, because of a series of mechanisms that behave differently in microgravity when compared to normal gravity conditions. These discoveries have potential applications in applied science and industry, especially concerning fuel efficiency.
