Best Hotels in Kowloon Hong Kong
Hong Kong remains today as one of the most popular exotic Asian destination. A shining gateway and start off point for exploring all that Southeast Asia has to offer for leisure travelers on a holiday of a lifetime. Though most think Hong Kong is just an island, it's not. Matter of fact it consist of several smaller islands with Hong Kong being the biggest. But Hong Kong also has a peninsula called Kowloon, which is the gateway to mainland China.
Kowloon offers plenty of sights to see with even more restaurants to choose and satisfy your culinary appetite and curiosity. And many of the hotels here in Kowloon will fit most budgets. Yes it's true, Hong Kong is an expensive city compared to the rest of Asia. And it's true, the less you pay the smaller the rooms are and vice versa. Well... it's true in most cases. But below you'll find a few hotels that have spacious rooms with affordable room rates in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Kowloon is made up of several districts with names such as Tsim Tha Tsui (TST), Mongkok, Jordan and Yau Ma Tei. They are all close to each other and connected by a major avenue called Nathan Road or as some would call it "The Golden Mile". It's hard to get lost while traveling in Kowloon. Nathan Road is what I like to call the "Spine" of Kowloon. Head north of Nathan road and you'll hit the New Territories (mainland China is not far from there). Head south and you'll reach Hong Kong Harbor and then the main island of Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is one of the Asian countries that I always like to recommend people to go to if they fear the language barrier. Since Hong Kong was previously under British control most of it's citizens have a fair grasp and comprehension of the English language. Street signs and mass transportation such as buses and trains have signs in English as as well making them an economical and ideal choice to get around this bustling city. It's a great city for folks who are afraid to get out of their "comfort zone" and explore a culture and lifestyle totally different then their own.

Map of Kowloon Peninsula
Go ahead and zoom in for a closer look
Right at the center is the Kowloon Peninsula. To the south is Hong Kong island and to the west are other smaller islands where you'll find other attractions such as Po Lin Monastery and Hong Kong Disney Land. To the north lies the gateway to mainland China.
The Kowloon peninsula is small and you can walk across the width of the peninsula within a day. Use Nathan road as your reference point when traveling and exploring Kowloon. There are winding and narrow lanes that twist and turn so it can get quite disorienting especially when you're in an unfamiliar place.
The small red and white symbols shows you where the MTR stations are located Hong Kong.

Nathan Road at Night
Through the "Golden Mile"
During the day Nathan road is a bustling avenue filled with fine shops selling the highest and most expensive luxury goods. Though if you head a bit north up the road you'll find shops with down to earth prices, albeit the labels and material are of dubious quality.
At night Nathan Road is still jam packed with locals and tourist wandering the streets heading for some good eats whether it's in a mall, hotel in the wall restaurant or even one of the many fast food restaurants that have encroached into Hong Kong. Take a walk here at night for a vibrant walk through neon lights and Hong Kong city life at its finest.
Kowloon is crammed full of shopping districts. Head to Mongkok, the street there are lined with hip sneakers and clothing stores catering to the young and fashion minded. You'll also find many electronics shops with the latest gadgets that just arrived in the market. But beware that the notebook computer you want may have bootleg software and the warranty will not be honored back home.

Hong Kong's MTR Station
The best way to travel in Hong Kong
When it comes to finding hotels in Kowloon it is best to stay on the western side of the peninsula. The reason why is because Hong Kong's convenient and affordable MTR (Mass Transit Rail) train system runs up and down along that area and even all the way down to Hong Kong island to the south. To reiterate, using the MTR is your best option for getting around Hong Kong. So whenever you see that red and white symbol pictured right, you know you are near a station. What makes it even easier to get around Hong Kong's MTR is that maps with station stops and instructions are in English. Even the station stops in each stations are announced in English. The MTR also runs through a train tunnel beneath Hong Kong harbor from Kowloon. Though there are still ferry boats in operation at Star Ferry near the southeastern tip of Kowloon peninsula. And if you have the time it is absolutely worth it to take the ferry ride across the harbor just for the experience.
All of the hotels reviewed here are within walking distance to the MTR adding more convenience and ease for touring all the sights that Hong Kong has to offer.
Recommended Hotels in Kowloon Hong Kong
Small rooms but big value
BP International HotelAverage rate: $ - $$
Address: 8 Austin Road Tsim Sha Tsui
BP Hotel is a popular choice for budget travelers who can afford to pay a bit more. Located right on the north end of Kowloon Park and close to many restaurant options. The BP's rooms are small, which is standard in most hotels in Hong Kong. But it's very comfortable and clean. There's a laundry room for guests to use which is a really good perk. Check out the many options of local cuisine, you won't regret it. I made a video review of BP Hotel and you can watch it below.

Best Hotels in Kowloon Hong Kong
A list of recommended hotels
So what you will find below are a list of hotels that are good quality affordable hotels. Hotels that are close to the MTR train stations. Hotels that are close to popular shopping districts such as the Ladies Night Market, bars, restaurants, massage parlors and even topless bars. I also recommend the hotels here because all of them are near the airport express bus stops that run along Nathan Road. The fare to the airport cost just HK$33, a real bargain for at trip that takes 30 to 40 minutes to the airport.
Casa HotelAverage rate: $ - $$
Address: 487-489 Nathan Road
For those in search of a clean budget hotel in Kowloon, Casa Hotel is it. But before you decide to book at Casa I want you to know that their rooms are small and the bathrooms are cramped. But it's perfect for a solo traveler, though two is the maximum. If you do decide to stay here than you'll be happy because it's located in the busy neighborhood of Mongkok. I highly recommend Casa Hotel.
Largos HotelAverage rate: $ - $$
Address: 30-36 Nanking Street
The Largos has rooms that are typically small in Hong Kong. But it's a very clean and well maintained hotel in busy Mongkok district near the equally busy intersection of Jordan and Nathan road. But if you need more space consider the suite which cost on average HK$800. The airport express bus A22 stop is not far from this hotel.
Mira Hotel Hong KongAverage rate: $$$
Address: 118 Nathan Road
The Mira Hotel is the new "It" hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui district (TST). Just recently renovated and called the Miramar Hotel that was built back in the 1940's. Today the name has been slashed in half but the room rates have doubled. And it's for good reason. The rooms at the Mira are fully updated with hip boutique hotel feel and the rooms are spacious, a real commodity in Hong Kong hotels.
Prudential HotelAverage rate: $$
Address: 222 Nathan Road
The Prudential Hotel is also situated right on Nathan Road. This is an area always busy with tourist and locals alike in search of great restaurants as well as an area with excellent department stores. The Prudential's rooms have been renovated and just like the Mira Hotel has large rooms and bathrooms. But the Prudential is definitely more affordable. There's even an MTR station access below the hotel between the shopping arcade.
Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon HotelAverage rate: $$ - $$$
Address: 348 Nathan Road
The Novotel brand name is a famous chain of French run hotels most well known for quality and professional customer service. And all of their finer qualities show through all over the hotel property from guest rooms to all of the fine dining options within. If you're a fitness fanatic you'll be pleased to know this hotel has the best equipment for the price range.
Metropark Mongkok HotelAverage rate: $$
Address: 22 Lai Chi Kok Road
The Metropark Mongkok hotel is another popular place to stay. Though the hotel does get quite packed with tour groups. Good thing it's a big hotel. The hotel's room conditions are not in the best condition. But it's clean which is most important. And the neighborhood of Mongkok will definitely keep you occupied all day.
Newton Kowloon HotelAverage rate: $ - $$
Address: 66 Boundary Street
Newton Kowloon Hotel is a newly renovated hotel that's gaining a lot of popularity. On the map it looks far from everything but it's not. There are many things to see and do in the area and if it's not enough the MTR station is not too far away. The rooms here are typically small for Hong Kong but after it's renovation it's remarkably fresh. There are many restaurants in this are that are very popular with the locals.
Eaton HotelAverage rate: $$ - $$$
Address: 380 Nathan Road
Located right on the Golden Mile, Eaton Hotel is certainly one of the most popular hotel in the area. The Eaton is also one of the few hotels with decent sized rooms. And all the rooms are well maintained and modern. There's even a small roof top pool and a fitness center for guest use. This is another hotel I highly recommend.

- Hey thanks for recommending and making the video review on BP Hotel. We love traveling to Hong Kong but we always have a hard time getting a clean hotel to stay in Kowloon. We were a bit wary of paying for small tiny rooms that are old and scary. After we saw your video on BP we knew we would be getting a clean room!

- Eaton House Hotel was a good place just right for what we wanted to pay. We booked a superior room and even though it was small it was good enough for me and my husband. We had a great view and our room was spotless with what seemed like new furniture. We love to recommend this hotel because we would come back next time we are in HK.
