Great Educational Toys for Kids of All Ages
When I was growing up I really didn't care much for school. Especially when I was younger and all I could think about was playing. I think that young minds have such an imaginative and creative nature that sitting them in front of a chalkboard (yes, I am that old) and expecting them to sit still for hours at a time is not the best way to stimulate young minds. For me though, if you gave me anything to build, take apart, or put together I was captivated. I would work for hours on a project like that and suddenly, things like gravity, physics, and mechanics took on a whole new meaning. Even when i was too young to know what those words meant, I was learning about them in very real ways.
Looking back, toys and science projects really were a great catalyst in my young life and got me thinking critically about the world around me and helped to define my interests. Not only that but toys are essential to a child's physical and mental development.
Instead of the same old toys this year, why not treat your kids to something that will help get them interested in the greater world around them and teach them the satisfaction of seeing a project completed. There is probably not a better way to spend time with your kids than to work with them on a fun and educational project. Here are some educational toys that will put the fun back in learning.

Roller Coaster Madness!
This is a great kind of toy for kids that are a bit older. It reminds me of a space age version of the game "Mouse Trap!" This one looks really fantastic when it is put together and demonstrates the properties of gravity and physics. This kit is great because there are endless possible ways to build it and each different build will result in different speeds, angles, and timing. These type of kits are great for experimenting and challenging kids to problem solve for themselves.Space Rail Physics Kit with Powered Elevator $47.50
Dusty as Dinosaur Bones
All kids love dinosaurs! I don't know why actually, some of them are pretty scary. In any case, dinosaurs are typically one of the first subjects that get kids thinking about science, they are just a really fun subject. When I was a kid I spent hours and hours drawing pictures of the them and later reading every book about them I could get my hands on. If I could have gotten my hands on something like this I would have been in heaven. This Dig-It-Out Dinosaur Kit is a block of clay material with the skeleton of a Triceratops inside! It comes with excavation tools to carefully dig it out and then the bones can be assembled into a full skeleton. This is the perfect gift for the little paleontologist in your life and a great lesson in patience with a very satisfying reward.
Dig-It-Out Dinosaur Kit $12.87

Learn the Architecture of the World
Architectural Models and puzzles are a fantastic way for kids to learn about building, geography, art, and history. Each of these models is not only a beautiful example of art and architecture but also a glimpse into history. Every famous building has a rich palette of stories and legends. A great way to get children interesting in history and foreign countries. These type of toys are a great way to open a discussion about the world we live in.These models are fun and safe, made from wood and can be assembled and disassembled over and over. The end product is a great display piece that you and your kids can be proud of.
Eiffel Tower Model $9.90
DIY Helicopter Assembly Kit
These kind of kits are great for giving kids the basics of earth science. They employ elements of mechanical, physics, and basic assembly. Of course it is fun too so that will keep kids interested. The only thing better than a remote control toy is the satisfaction of building it yourself and seeing it fly. I had to get by on an old metal erector set (which I loved) but the build kits available to kids today are truly impressive.Helicopter Assembly Kit $22.70
To the Stars!
Every kid wants to be an astronaut. And while only a few can, every kid can have the fun of imagining space travel and faraway worlds. Photo realistic 3D paper models such as this will spark the imagination and make a great project with a very nice final product that can be displayed on a shelf or hung from the ceiling. Building a model like this will help kids to learn about aerodynamics and the science of rocketry and space exploration. Watching space shuttle launches and talking about science and technology will be much more interesting and relevant to a child after completing a project such as this.Space Shuttle Discovery 3D model $6.90
Wooden Puzzle Toys
These kind of wooden puzzle toys are great to challenge kids and encourage problem solving. Great for developing memory and dexterity skills in young kids. It is also nice to have some toys around that aren't made of plastic. These toys are fun over and over again and can be played with anywhere.Willow Lock Wooden Puzzle Kit $6.10
