The BEST Legitimate Survey Sites

Can You REALLY Make Money by Taking Surveys?
Yep, you sure can! Every product manufacturer needs market research before they release a new product. Why? First of all, they need to figure out if people even want the product they are creating. Secondly, they need to find out what features people want. Also, they need to decide on a price point for the new product. There are several other reasons why a company would need market research but those are the main reasons.
The easiest way for companies to get this market research is to create surveys and pay survey companies to get consumers to take the surveys. The survey company takes a portion of that money and then spreads it out equally for each user who takes the survey. Not all consumers can take every survey. Why? Well, certain products are only used by certain demographics and it would be useless to ask someone outside the demographic if they would buy a product or how much they would pay for a certain product.
That's why survey companies create "survey panels". By creating a panel, they can take demographic information such as household size and income, age, employment information, hobbies, etc. With this information, they can only send you invitations to surveys that you qualify for. Not all survey panels are equal. Some are notorious for not paying. Some send surveys you don't qualify for, wasting your precious time. That's why I created this lens.
I have personally joined these survey panels and tested them for various factors (except for Valued Opinions). I am posting my favorites with important information such as payout threshold and frequency, length of surveys and "Survey Police" ratings. Survey Police ratings are basically reviews created by other survey-takers. They rate the same things that I do and Survey Police provides a percentage of how many users would recommend the survey panel. When I say "Recommended by __% of Users", that information comes from Survey Police.

#1 - Opinion Outpost
Recommended by 75.5% of panelists
Opinion Outpost is one of the best survey sites out there. The payout threshold is just $3 for a game download, $5 for an Amazon.com gift card, $10 for PayPal and $15 for a Citibank virtual debit card. There are lots of surveys available on Opinion Outpost. When I sign in, there are usually 10-15 surveys available for me. I don't qualify for all of them, of course, but it takes me just 1 week to earn enough to cash out via PayPal. In fact, I've been a member for 5 weeks and have cashed out a total of $55. That's pretty awesome! Even better is the fact that their payouts are always completed within 24 hours and PayPal payments are INSTANT!Opinion Outpost does have some downsides though. First, the surveys don't pay as much as others. Lately the average survey is 20 minutes long with a payout of 15 points ($1.50). If you're good at math, you'll see that's a pay rate of $4.50 per hour. That is not very good, however, this is still good for something done in your spare time. Secondly, many of the survey invitations you receive will end up being surveys you don't qualify for. Finally, some surveys will disqualify you very late into the survey. To eliminate this, exit out of any survey that shows OTX on the upper left hand size of the screen.

OTX surveys are often built so that they disqualify you near the end, preventing you from getting paid.
Aside from these downsides, Opinion Outpost is an excellent survey company and I heartily recommend them.
#2 Mindswarms
BRAND NEW Survey Site!!!
Mindswarms is an AWESOME survey site. You must own a webcam to participate on this site but webcams are easy to find and very cheap. I paid $25 for mine (Logitech C210) and it works great! Anyways, you take surveys using your webcam. You answer 7 questions and you get 1 minute per question so it takes less than 20 minutes for each survey (you can re-record answers). The best part? EVERY Mindswarms survey pays $50! Yes, it's true - $50 per survey. Even better is that you get paid via PayPal within 24 business hours. Run, don't walk to sign up for Mindswarms. The ONLY downside to Mindswarms is that you don't qualify for every survey and you might go weeks without getting a survey invitation. But for the amount you receive, it's totally worth it. This company has not been rated by Survey Police YET but I can assure you that it is 100% legitimate. I completed a survey for them and received my payment the very next day.
#3 - True Panel
FUN Video Surveys!
True Panel is another great site. These surveys, also known as "studies," pay well and are very fun. You have to fill out a profile at the beginning and based on your answers, you'll receive study invitations. All of True Panel's studies require you to record videos on a device such as a webcam, video camera, digital camera with video recording capabilities, or a smartphone with video recording capabilities. If you do not own one of these items, they will send you one to KEEP however, your payout will be lower than if you already own one. For example, for one survey they offered either $175 OR a flip cam and $25.So far, I have only completed one study with True Panel but I am very pleased with them. The pay is excellent and the surveys are really fun. If you don't mind being in front of the camera, give them a shot! The only downside I've found is that there are not very many study invitations. This company has not been rated by Survey Police YET but I can assure you that it is 100% legitimate.
#4 - Ipsos I-Say
Recommended by 74.4% of Panelists
Ipsos I-Say is another AWESOME survey site! Their surveys pay well and the payout is low at just 1000 points for $10. The absolute best thing about Ipsos is that if you take a screener for a survey and you don't qualify, you will receive 5 points. So basically you're never wasting your time even if you don't qualify.Like many of the other companies, the only downside is that there aren't that many survey invitations. Keep in mind that not getting many survey invitations is actually a GOOD thing. Why? It means that the survey company is only sending you invitations for surveys that the company believes you'll qualify for.
#5 - Survey Head
Recommended by 69.9% of Panelists
Survey Head is another good survey site. One of my favorite things about Survey Head is that they give you $5 just for signing up. Then, you complete profile surveys (to match you to studies) and you get paid 10-25 cents per profile survey. After all is said and done, you get around $7 just for signing up and filling out some surveys. The even better part? The payout is $10 so you just need to complete 1-2 actual surveys to reach payout. Now, when you reach $10, you can either choose a magazine subscription (limited choices) or you can choose to keep racking up cash until you hit $25. When you hit $25, you can cash out for a check. This is what I plan on doing but plenty of panelists are more than happy to get a magazine subscription in exchange for filling out surveys.I don't have any major complaints about this site, I just wish their check cash out threshold were a bit lower. Other than that, I'm very happy with Survey Head.
Honorable Mentions
Global Test Market
Recommended by 54.4% of panelists
Global Test Market is another great site. I'm very new to the site but I've already earned 100 points ($5) which is 1/10th of the way to payout. The surveys are fast and fun. The only downside I've seen thus far is that the survey invitations don't come very often. Survey Spot
Recommended by 48.9% of Panelists
Survey Spot has a warm place in my heart. It was the FIRST survey site I ever joined. This was several years ago and back then, Survey Spot was a survey taker's dream. They had tons of surveys, paid fairly well, and paid quickly. They still have lots of surveys and pay quickly BUT their pay rate has dropped in the last few years. That's why I'm sticking Survey Spot in the honorable mention rather than the "BEST" section.Bottom line: If you join all the other sites and aren't getting very many surveys, hop over to Survey Spot to fill the void.
Valued Opinions
Recommended by 75.1% of Panelists
Valued Opinions has excellent reviews. The only reason I'm not putting this site in the "BEST" category is because I joined over a month ago and have not received any survey invitations yet. Because I haven't received any invitations, I'm putting this in the Honorable Mention category. NPD Online Research
Recommended by 74.6% Panelists
NPD Online Research is another survey site that I like. It's different from other survey sites because instead of cash, you get SweepLand Points for every survey you take. These points are then cashed in for entries into sweepstakes for cash or prizes. Some survey takers do NOT like this type of payment so I'm sticking this in the honorable mention section rather than in the "BEST" section. More Survey Companies
