How to build your fan club

Building a list with a Squidoo lens that showcases your fans

At the time I wrote this article, I'd joined Squidoo less than two months prior and had wholeheartedly embraced it as my online writing for money venue. I leveled up quickly and gained a list of over 100 fans in that time frame. When the fan club feature was eliminated I had over 300 fans. Squidoo has archived the fan club feature now, but the information on this page is still relevant - perhaps more relevant, because Squidoo no longer automatically offers a place to follow. The best way to organize your fans on squidoo is to make a page that showcases them. To stay in touch with fans via updates similar to the squidcastosaurus; try amplify.com and Google Plus. Now that Google Plus is out and folks are using it, it does seem that the Squidoo Fan Clubs were deleted due to the introduction and development of "Google's version of Facebook". On this page you can increase your audience or fan club by adding your lensmaster page and your twitter page, if you've made a lens that showcases your fans, add that too, take the poll, learn a bit about followers, feedback and keywords, & build a great list along with me. How NOT to build a list or fan club

Don't pay for something you have to buy anyway in terms of effort

In 2009, during a manic phase of my life in terms of trying to build an online presence for myself, I tried some rather funny (now, anyway) ways to build a list for the book I wanted to promote. My husband and I laugh about it now, but at the time, paying $500 for a business-in-a-box program was not something to laugh about. That I paid that much money for a mousepad, essentially, is kind of humorous in hindsight. Kind of. Once I signed up for the program and paid the money, suddenly the guy up line disappeared, forum questions didn't get answered, and I found myself spell checking their dash board. Upon getting the 'key' to the 'inner guru sanctum' of a much publicized online MLM fortune 500 business, I found I was really just inside a magazine for the rich and famous. If I wanted, I could buy in to the next level up for several thousand dollars, but wait, I'd better hurry- the folks in the ghost-town of what was supposed to be a bustling hub of activity were all gearing to go. What folks, I wondered? They all seemed to disappear. When my 30 day 'free" subscription to their ghost-town of a "support center" ran out, I had no fans, and no money to renew the support. The BIB (business-in-a-box) became nothing more than an expensive mouse pad on my computer desk, and a running source of jokes (ie my hubby says he's inventing 'PhotoCopyPro' next) perhaps as an 'online reality check'. With Squidoo though, within two months of signing up and writing web pages, I had a significant base of fans.

Squidoo Puts It All 'On The Table'

There's never a million pages of 'Read-On-Promise-Candies' with an 'Order Now!' form at the end.. nor is there ever a "FREE!" program advertised that requires credit card authorization...
Squidoo's 100% FREE, and you get back what you put into it
~And your fans love you for it

Important!

Just Don't Buy It

Don't buy someone else's program for success, especially one that supposedly 'runs on autopilot'
Buy YOURS, by providing value to a free platform that has potential to earn money

Squidoo Fan Club: Best Ever List Builder

Squidoo Fan Clubs Are GONE - now it's AMPLIFY.com

Do you agree with me that now that Squidoo's Fan Clubs are gone, Amplify.com is the Best List Builder Ever, or can you share another free way to build a genuine list or fan club quickly? (Twitter doesn't count!)

Is Amplify The Best List-Builder Ever?

Yes- check out my amplog! Add your amplog via html

poddys says:

I like Amplify and think it's a good way of getting the word out, especially if you have accounts on a number of other sites. However it does seem horribly slow to use, which at times is frustrating.

My Amplog is http://poddys.amplify.com

nightbear says:

I like amplify. It has several great purposes. Susan Kaul

mamabush says:

I've never tried Amplify, but I'll have to check it out now.

mhosong72 says:

I will try to this thing.

WhiteOak50 says:

I am sort of new to amplog WhiteOak-Amplify so I am not really sure if it is a good list-builder. I like it over there though, love their format.

sujaysen says:

Perhaps.

grandma_deal says:

okay, i think i can, Grandma Deal's Amplify

OhMe says:

I need to check out Amplify today

Evelyn_Saenz says:

I just joined Amplify but so far I am liking it very much.

sirkeystone says:

I miss my 'casts already, but I'm trying the amplog anyway... http://www.jamesarickeith.amplify.com/ But it feels like the old days of Stumbleupon, or Digg... which is cool!

No way!- this list builder's better

clouda9 says:

I just found out a weird thing about Amplify...clicking on a link that got to page 1 on Google that links to Amplify and unless you are "signed on" it goes to a blank page. Weird and has steered me clear of there...for now.

says:

I like Amplify, however - I won't classify it as a list builder.

FREE website, blog, traffic & backlinks

I made this website, and its initial purpose was to host links to my Squidoo lenses. It was FREE to make this website, and easy to do. I'd yet to set up a blog, so I have done that as well on my freewebs site. The cool thing about having my own free blog is that I can post as many links as I like on it without worrying about stepping on anyone's advertising toes and potentially losing my hard work. I have also started a Squidoo webring on freewebs, so Squidoo lensmasters who also make a freewebs site to host their links can check out one another's lenses.

Guestbook Comments

Build your followers by providing value to other lenses

When commenting on someone's lens, try to include some keywords that are relevant to the lens, and can help improve the lens ranking. When lensmasters see this, they often return the favor. A keyword phrase I am looking for is list building. Thanks for visiting, and happy listbuilding!

Excellent page and a good learning venue for me. I did not know about some of these ways for list building. Also great idea to ask for keywords in comments. I will try to include what I think may be keywords on lenses I visit in future. I still miss the fanclub on Squidoo but looking for other ways . Just started with G+ so will see how it goes. Thank you for a great page on list building!

This is a great idea, it's always handy to have a list of your friends and contacts, and this type of lens often generates a lot of traffic and gives good opportunities for meeting new people as well.

I added my Twitter links for the Squidblogs directory too, hope that's ok.
  • nightbear Sep 27, 2011 @ 1:45 am | delete
What a great lens. I hadn't thought of some of these ideas as good list building tactics. Also a very generous lens, thanks for all the links. And how clever you are to identify and then ask for keywords in comments with your chosen keyword. Brilliant! Blessed!!
