Adriana Lima was discovered whilst out shopping at the age of 13. At the age of 15, she won the Ford Bralizian supermodel contest. Adriana moved to New York, and signed with a top agency - Elite modelling. High profile assignments followed, both catwalk and magazine-work. Adriana soon achieved supermodel status, with top dollar contracts with Victoria's Secret, Telecom Italia Mobile, Guess?, Armani jeans and XOXO.

Allessandra Ambrosio signed up for modelling lessons when a young teenager. In 1996, she took part in Elite's Look of the Year contest. Her stunning looks were quickly noticed by the agency, who signed up Alessandra - her first modellling contract. Soon she was the model that everyone wanted. It wasn't long before she'd worked for a string of top brands, including Guess?, Gap, Revlon, Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani. and Victoria's Secret.

Gisele Bundchen was discovered by an agent from the Elite modelling agency whilst eating a burger at a McDonalds in Sao Paulo. In 2000, she signed a very lucrative contral with Victoria's Secret, the lingerie chain. This, together with campaigns for the best-knows designer brands - Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Valentino and others - has made her possbily the highest paid model in the world. At home, her nickname is the 'Boobs from Brazil', because of her (apparently) artificially augmented chest. Other body adornment is a tattoo inside her wrist, and a belly-button piercing. She's also been accused of being a fur-friendly model by PETA, but this she herself denies.

Keira Knightley comes from a talented family - her father acted in the theatre, and her mother was a successful playwright. Keira demanded her own agent at the young age of 3! - so she could have as many phone calls as her parents. Her big opportunity came when she was chosen for the part of the 'Decoy Queen' to Queen Amidala in Start Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Other memorable film performances include Bend It Like Beckham, King Arthur, and the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

Scarlett Johansson had her sights set on becoming an actress from the tender age of 3. As soon as possible, she enrolled for acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. Her first professional part, at the age of just 8, was in a stage production of Sophistry, acting beside Ethan Hawke.
Several movie parts followed. Even in underperforming movies, such as The Horse Whisperer, Scarlett's acting talents shone through.
Next Scarlett had to make the difficult transition from child to adult star. In 2003, any lingering doubts about her capabilities were blown away with great performances in Lost in Translation and The Pearl Earring.

Charlize Theron witnessed the shooting of her drunkard father by her mother at the young age of 15. Chalize immersed herself in her passion, ballet dancing. On a whim, she entered a national modelling competition which to her surprise she won. She travelled to Europe, where she enjoyed some success as a runway model. At the age of 17, when a magazine flew her out to New York for a photo shoot, Charlize decided to stay on to study ballet at the Joffrey Ballet School. Sadly a serious knee injury ended Charlize's ballet ambitions.
Charlize decided to try her luck in Hollywood. A chance encounter with a acting agent (when Charlize was throwing a tantrum at a bank), led to her first successful audition, for a part in 2 Days in The Valley. More parts followed, and Charlize's reputation grew. In 2003, 8 years after arriving in Hollywood, Charlize won an Oscar for her part in Monster (portraying serial killer Aileen Wuornos).
