Best Marilyn Monroe Movie of all Time: The Seven Year Itch
My grand parents used to go on holiday separately: my grand mother would leave the town with the children and my grand father would stay in town, joining his wife for the weekends.
I mainly grew up in my grand parents home and I too went on holiday with my grand mother and my cousins, leaving my grand father home. We used to call him each and every evening. He joined us on the Fridays and left on Sundays.
One of my favorite movies - and in my opinion Marilyn Monroes best movie of all times, is The Seven Year Itch, adapted by Billy Wilder from a three-act play and released in 1955. The main actors of this humorous movie were Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell. It reminds me those memories of my childhood, when times were simpler.

What's The Seven Year Itch all about?
Richard Sherman sends his wife and son for holidays in the country for a few weeks and remains himself in New York in order to work. Leaving the station he laughs at those men whose wife just went away, looking at beautiful and young women, thinking to those things they are going to do: going out every night, dancing, playing, drinking, smoking and... prawling! Mr Sherman won't fall in that trap! No way! He's just going to spend these weeks alone, at home and worried only by his work.
However, as he gets back home in the evening, he meets a new neighbour: a beautiful model who's renting the flat on the next floor; the Girl. And the adventure begins: while proof-reading a psychiatrist book related to the "seven year itch", a tomato vase falls down in his garden, breaking a chair. Although it's the model's fault, the man invites her to have a drink in his apartment. Over the days, they spend some time together but he get tempted more and more by the Girl.
This temptation and the reading of the book written by Dr Brubaker, the psychiatrist, feed his overflowing imagination so much that it all turns into paranoia. He dreams of the caretaker calling his wife to tell his extra-marital adventures, a friend coming home and asking for an explanation, his wife arriving from the country to kill him and even the Girl speaking about their relationship on TV. Fortunately, thanks to the Girl, he will recover all his senses and leave the Big Apple to join his wife and son, leaving his apartment to the neighbour.

If you like the very special atmosphere of the America of the 50s, Marilyn Monroe, Tom Ewell and the situation comedies that you can share with your children; you won't get tired of watching this movie over and over again. Marilyn Monroe acts one of her best roles as the Girl and Tome Ewell plays the men confronted with their demons to perfection. The whole film is opened to general public. I recommend buying this movie if you want to spend a good moment whether with your family or alone.

Marilyn Monroe
The Seven Year Itch Star
Marilyn Monroe, aka Norma Jean Baker, was born in Los Angeles on June 1, 1926. She began her career as model but signed her first contract with the 20th Century Fox very quickly after having been noticed by Howard Hughes. Marilyn Monroe became a Hollywood star and a sex-symbol in the early fifties and played roles in successful movies such as The Seven Year Itch, Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like It Hot, and The Misfits.
Being a star has downsides and Monroe vainly researched happiness throughout her life. She got married three times; the first one when she was only sixteen with James Dougherty, the second time with Joe Di Maggio and the last time with Arthur Miller. She committed suicide on August 5th, 1962 and entered the legend, becoming an icon of the cinema.

The Seven Year Itch Co-Star

Tom Ewell, aka Samuel Yewell Tompkins, was born on April 29, 1909 in Kentucky. Tom Ewell was mainly a theatre actor and his career started by playing in Summer Stock Theatre (productions presented during the Summertime) in the early 1920s. He enrolled in the ActorStudio a few years later and played generally comic roles in Broadway productions.
Ewell played the role of Richard Sherman for many years in the Broadway production "The Seven Year Itch" before being hired to feature the character in the movie, adapted for the cinema. He won a Tony Award for his role in the movie.
Ewell played essentially for the theatre but got a few successful movies as well. He got his own TV show during the sixties, "The Tom Ewell Show" and played a recurring role in the TV-series "Beretta".
Retired from the scene since 1986, Tom Ewell died on September 12, 1994.
