We've all heard that meditation is good for us, right? Even the word "meditation" brings up images of Zen people sitting cross-legged on cushions for long periods of time, achieving guru-like enlightenment.
But-- what if you're not a guru? What if you can't imagine 30 seconds of silent contemplation, much less 30 minutes? What if you can't even get your legs to cross like that? How Long Should You Meditate?
Ideally, you will be able to do your first meditation in the morning, before you grab your Blackberry or get into the shower and zone out, only to realize it's 3:00 and you've been on autopilot all day. First, though, get out of bed. If you try to put yourself in a meditative, energy-building state when you are lying down first thing in the morning, you will probably go back to sleep, and no one wants that.
