Ibiza Town (Eivissa), Ibiza
The vibe of Ibiza is as heterogeneous as the ways the island's called. 'E-zee-tha', 'e-bee-tha', 'e-vee-thaa' and 'e-bitz-er' are all common variations of pronunciation. And it's hard to think of such a diverse blend of people outside Los Angeles or London. Ibiza attracts all types of people with its outrageous nightlife, beautiful beaches and mild Mediterranean weather.
Throughout time, the 3 main islands, Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca, were the object of conquest by foreign powers. Even in the fifth century BC the Punic empire held the island . Moorish soldiers came during the eight century AD and established control until the collapse of the Caliphate of Cordoba. James I of Spain gained control over the island in in 1229. Only fifty years later he lost control to the separate kingdom of Mallorca. Later the islands ceded back to Spain.
Today the original Ibiza, a characterful an island of farmers, villagers, and fisherman still remains. But Ibiza is equally famed for its cool feel, its dance-music roots, its chilled beach-bars, and its energetic parties. Thousands of people arrive at Ibiza to enjoy the beach culture and nightlife.

Ibiza Port Guide
When your cruise ship pulls into the port of Eivissa (also known as Ibiza Town), you'll have an excellent view of the magnificent walls of the Dalt Vila, or Old Town. The fortified walls were finished in the late sixteenth century, to keep pirates at bay, and are 75 ft high and 15ft deep. To the right of you lies new town, the home to one of the biggest nightclubs in the world, Pacha. Larger ships will dock at the outer port of Botafac. It is about a 5 minute coach ride to Ibiza Old Town. Smaller ships will dock at the Abrigo Dock (see photo), adjacent to the boho Sa Penya streets, and a 5 min walk to the Old Town.

Spending your Time Ashore
La MarinaLa Marina, Ibiza's harbourside area, commonly just called 'El Puerto', forms the heart of Ibiza town. Formed by a crooked network of cramped streets, it's squished between the port waters and the high walls of Dalt Vila. Its alleys and tiny plazas are brimful with stylish boutiques, characterful restaurants and trendy bars, and a souk-like market of colorful stalls.
Dalt Vila
Climb through Dalt Villa and enjoy quaint shops, picturesque homes crammed into narrow streets - all typical features of a relaxed Med port. There are many opportunities to stop and admire the view which encompasses the town and harbor. At last you'll get to the Placa De Catedral, at the very summit, for 360 degree panoramic views overa all of Ibiza. The island of Formentera is easy to spot in the middle distance.
Cathedral of Nuestra Senora de la Nieves (see photo)
Atop of the D'Alt Vila lies the cathedral of Mary of the Snows. The views from the cathedral square are spectacular, over the town, harbor, surrounding sea and nearby countryside. The cathedral has a pleasing right-angled structure, supported by buttresses, and topped by a mighty belltower. Step inside the cool interior of the thirteenth century catthedral to look at its restrained Baroque features. Outside the nearby fort is being converted to an up-market hotel.
Museu Puget
The Museu Puget features a excellent selection of paintings and pictures by the well-known Ibizan artist Narcis Puget Vinas.
Puig d'en Valls
The eighteenth century windmills of Puig d'en Valls show the indespensibilty of windmills in the old econoomy of Ibiza. Nowadays you should be able to locate 4. Under the hill's shadow lies the impressive Punic Necropolis.
Ses Salines
The salt dried at these salt ponds was the base for one of the first industries on Ibiza; ships still dock at Ses Salines to load salt. There is also a nearby favorite beach, a favorite with the well-heeled.
