Laudate Dominum: The Best Mozart Music Ever
Ranked #1,614 in Music, #43,716 overall
Laudate Dominum must be one of Mozart's greatest achievements. A glimpse of heaven.
The first time I heard Mozart's Laudate Dominum was on Classic FM where it was sung by the wonderful soprano Barbara Bonney
The work forms part of the Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, and was composed in September 1780. The work (Kochel 339) is made up of musical settings of 5 Psalms and was used in the Roman Catholic liturgy known as Vespers. The original manuscript is lost presumed destroyed in the Second World War.
It was commissioned by the Archbishop of Salzburg, Hieronymus von Colloredo.

EchoTarpeian says:
Psalm 116
1 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
2 Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
4 Then I called on the name of the LORD:
“LORD, save me!”
5 The LORD is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
6 The LORD protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.

Nenkai says:
It's a lot of fun to sing...I once brought it in as my option for a summer anthem and was told, "Heavens, that's a lot to play, and way too much for a summer congregation to listen to"! So sad. I haven't sung it since.
No way!
esvoytko says:
I wish I were familiar enough with his entire oeuvre to make that call! I'll say no because I tend to prefer instrumentals...
Athelyna says:
Tough call. If I had to pick, I'd say the Requiem always moves me to tears. But perhaps that's too easy.
opheliakeith says:
I couldn't pick just one.
Ghaelen says:
I didn't want to say no way, but I love so many Mozart songs that I hate to pick just one. This is a lovely lens, and the music of Mozart is, as ever, beautiful.
Tipi says:
Its lovely but I prefer his instrumentals, did listen to 2 of your videos and did enjoyed them.
dogface says:
It is a fabulous masterpiece, but because I haven't heard every song by Mozart I'll say no.
PaulOnBooks says:
It is indeed sublime but I wouldn't say the greatest - I lean towards the Requiem, K.626, but then I'm of a melancholy nature!
pyngthyngs says:
I honestly have a hard time going either way, most likely because I don't know enough to make an educated decision. In any case, this melody is absolutely beautiful.
JoyfulPamela says:
I adore all of Herr Mozart's music, but being an instrumentalist, that is where my heart goes. =D
