Finding the Best Music Phone
Read on to find out about the important features, which phones come highly recommended, and what other readers are saying about the best music phones.
What Makes a Cell Phone a Top Music Phone?
Like any cell phone, your new music phone has to operate with the cellular network you will be using. In addition, if you wish to use the phone as a camera, or to do a great deal of text messaging then attention will also need to be given to those features.
All music phones will support the most popular file type, MP3. However, you might also be interested in making use of AAC, WMA, WAV, AMR, MIDI, or other types of music files. The best music phone for you should supports the types of files you want to use.
Shoppers should consider whether or not the phone offers the type of controls they want. For instance can they adjust the tone, bass, and so forth to suit their preferences. Are volume, rewind, fast forward and other functions easy to adjust? How does the music phone allow you to organize and find the tunes you want; is it convenient and quick? The best music phones let you tweak your music to suit the sound you like and make it easy to enjoy exactly the tunes you want.
Shoppers should listen to the quality of the sound before buying. Are the speakers good and are headphones adequate? If all is well, but the headphones aren't up to par, find out if you can upgrade them.
For instance, does the music phone also offer an FM radio? Does it make streaming over a wireless connection possible? Does it have enough memory to store all of the tunes you want on your phone? Phones with a few GB of memory are good but having a microSD slot to add more is nice as well.
Can you make use of your favorite download sites with it and can you perform downloads quickly? Obviously, a USB 2.0 connection is preferable and shoppers should assure the cable comes included when buying the phone.

Sony Ericsson W580i W580 from AddictedToPhones.com
One of the newer phone from Sony Ericsson. Very similar to the S500i. There's a shake control feature. I haven't figured out how to use it yet, I know it changes the track number and stuff when I shake the phone, but somehow it didn't work when I tried. Anyways, I personally like how the W580i feels; it's more solid. The phone is $364 each which includes a 512MB M2 Memory Card. Use Google Checkout and get $5 off your order; use coupon code SE5. Great lens, lots of good information. I personally don't care for all these things on a cell phone though.

Hi Mulberry, I was just checking my casts and found you had this one there .. looked interesting .. so here I am. I'm still using the 2nd one I've ever had with no music, no games, just talky, talk. I guess high tech is passing me by. I'm really happy to learn about all these new things on the market though ... so keep me posted. 5 star lens as usual.

Ok, is it just me or does anyone else think a phone is for talking or texting and another media player such as MP3, ipod or walkman is for listening to music? maybe I've reached the age where I'm too stuck in my ways to change! I do have a phone that plays music but I don't use that function...I use my ipod.
Great lens Mulberry...as usual! 5*
