Choosing the Best Camera for the Money

Here are the top 10 latest and greatest Nikon cameras available today. With all of the great features available, it's difficult not to pick a winner in the lineup. You really can't go wrong with any of the models selected. They all take amazing, high quality, beautiful, sharp images that only a few years ago were only available with the finest professional cameras. Today with the flick of a switch you can shoot panoramas, HDR (High Dynamic Range), Macros ( Close-ups), Portraits as well as in come cases, full 1080p high definition video!

So here is the list of what I would pick as a professional photographer to get the best features and performance for your money and the best nikon digital camera 2012.

Cameras today come in three basic flavors. The first are the point and shoots which offer convenience and simplicity of design. Pick it up and start shooting.

The second type are compact system cameras. They combine the best of the point and shoot with more capabilities like the larger removable lens cameras, but in a more compact and lighter camera.

The third type are Full Sized Digital SLR's. They are more expensive, more flexible, larger, heavier and in some cases offer more features right out of the box.

Each has their advantages and many pros like myself, use the Full Sized Digital SLR versions for photo shoots and higher quality, but also carry the point and shoot where ever I go to always have it available.

The quality and convenience of todays' point and shoot cameras truly make them worthwhile to carry with you everywhere.

Best Nikon Point and Shoot for the money

Nikon P7000Hands down, it's the Nikon P7000. I and many other pro photographers use this model as it offers an incredible range of features for a very low price. Shoots everything from panoramas with ease up to full high res movies!

This is one of those cameras that you will be happy with for years to come. Small, light, easy to operate and takes fantastic images. If you need a awesome point and shoot for yourself or for the kids to take photos or learn more about photography, this would be my top pick.

Best Nikon Compact Camera for the money

Nikon 1 J1In the next category up from the point and shoots are the compact cameras. Nikon has done a great job in creating a small, light, compact, full featured camera that doesn't get in the way. It comes with a 10-30mm lens which is perfect for vacations, shooting landscapes, groups and events. It comes in Black, Red, Silver, and White, and even allows you to take photos while shooting full 1080p high def video! It has a range of low cost lenses available to give you ability to shoot pretty much anything you can imagine.

This is one of the worlds fastest autofocus cameras as well. That means that you won't miss an important photo of your kids walking down the isle or your daughters soccer game when the subject is moving. If you want to shoot indoors, this cool little point and shoot works fantastic in low light, which means you don't have to be blasting everyone with the flash and can maintain the mood and atmosphere of what you are shooting.

Nikon only offers two basic models in the compact category. They come in various colors like Black, Red, Silver and White and offer a number of different lens choices to suit your needs.

Best Nikon Full Size Camera for the money

Nikon D3100This one was a tough choice. I'm admittedly biased as I own and use daily the Nikon D7000. Truly an awesome cameara for the price. I've chosen though the Nikon D3100 as it comes in at less than half the price of the D7000 and is a fantastic buy for the money. If I was looking for an ideal camera to get started in this category, the D3100 would be my choice.

The Nikon D3100 comes with the standard kit lens, the 18-55mm. This is good to start off with, but as with any camera in this category, you want to get the highest quality lens possible. That's what is nice about full sized cameras like this. The lenses are all compatible, so you can build your lens collection a piece at a time and just replace the body when you want the new and improved version. The 18-55 will do very well though as an all around, general purpose lens, that is ideal for the beach, portraits, photographing your kids, or just learning how to be a better photographer.

There are two ways that you can buy a full sized camera. One is with the kit lens, and the other is to just buy the body and then add the lens of your choice. Make sure that you know which one you are getting as the body itself runs less money, but you will have to buy a lens separately in order to use it. The advantage of this is that you can get a different and often better quality lens by purchasing it separately. If you are just starting out, the kit lens is a good place to start. You can always sell it on eBay, Amazon or Craigslist later on down the road.

Thanks for the recommendations! I've got an older Sony, but it would be nice to have some of the features of the newer cameras.

I've always owned Canons, but got my first Nikon this year - the AW-100 underwater camera. My other cameras are SLRs, so this little thing feels very different, but I got it to go scuba diving and it takes great photos!
