Limoncello on Twitter

Limoncello has been around for more than a century. The lemon liqueur became famous on the Italian Island of Capri when hotel owner Vincenza Canale offered a small glass to her guests as an after dinner treat. There was no Twitter back then, but word spread quickly as her international guests shared stories about their love for the sweet, lemony nectar. Limoncello di Capri is produced and offered worldwide by the descendents of Vincenza Canale. There are many imitations, but the original Limoncello di Capri is made exclusively with lemons from Sorrento. These lemons are known for the essential oils in their peels, and this is where the lemony flavor is derived. Limoncello is surprisingly easy to make, and requires only four ingredients: organic lemons, vodka, sugar, and water. The recipe our family uses was found in Frances Mayes' bestseller, In Tuscany. Our 90-year-old lemon tree is loaded this year, and we'll be making another batch for holiday gifts soon.
