The Best of the UK

Ranked #10,254 in Travel & Places, #260,559 overall

What's the best you can find in the UK?

Find out about some of the best places to travel to and the best things to see and do in the UK - in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This site highlights the best lenses that I can find for people visiting the different parts of the UK. They've all been "blessed" as providing a good standard of information about the topics.

My aim is to provide a good coverage of lenses from all around the UK.

Where possible it includes information of specific relevance to children and families

This site is a record of blessings by the squid angel tasked with looking after the United Kingdom sub-sub-category of Squidoo. It's developing all the time

What sort of lenses do I bless?

I became a Squid Angel in February 2011 and I look after the UK neighbourhood. I'm currently working my way round the UK looking for lenses which are worth blessing.

Let me tell you a bit about me and what I know about the UK
- I've travelled to all four countries of the United Kingdom.
- I was born in the north of England and went to school in Manchester
- When I was young holidays used to be taken in Scotland or Wales. There were frequent visits to the Lake District and the Pennines.
- I went to university in East Anglia - and did a degree in Geography. I like my maps!
- After which I came to live and work in London. From here I spent fifteen years of my career managing services and travelling for work all around the UK. Many times I've driven, used trains and flown the length and breadth of the UK in a day!
- As as an adult I've holidayed all over the UK, am a member of the National Trust and am particularly keen on UK Heritage and historical maps of London and other parts of the UK. I also love gardens and have developed a series of lenses about gardens.

I'm looking for lenses which tell a story from personal experience - written by people who know an area well and who know what are the features to highlight for those might be wanting to visit. .

Show me or tell me about lenses which:
- educate people about the topic you've chosen.
- provide useful information for travellers and visitors (this is after all a travel category!) - including families with children. You don't have to write it all out. This could be information provided via links to useful websites. Travel information is always very useful - especially that which highlights things it's useful to know which doesn't get covered in a guide book.
- provide the sort of tips which provide the added value and could make all the difference to a trip or stay
- make recommendations

Don't forget that lots of people are virtual travellers so try and use lots of relevant images - preferably your own.

Now back to the lenses which have been blessed!

I'm not aware of any particular lenses yet (maybe I'll have some candidates soon), but a couple of categories you might need are for lenses about the Isle of Man, and for the Channel Islands. Both are part of the British Isles; but not of England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Island!
