After I cut back my sugar intake dramatically I noticed a huge difference, not only in my ability to lose weight but also I don't have the mood swings, the aches and pains or the sugar cravings! I'm really starting to believe that sugar is the root of all evil (okay, maybe not but it is one of the main roots of this obesity epidemic in the U.S.)
Let me first tell you, I am a sugar addict. Place a chocolate cake in front of me and it will be gone by tomorrow. Sound familiar? So, when my husband was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago I secretly feared for my own self since I knew I wouldn't be able to bake those cakes and cookies anymore. What was I going to do without dessert???
Actually, it wasn't that hard. Since my husband couldn't eat sugary foods any more I naturally cut back on my sugar intake as well. If it wasn't in the house I couldn't eat it, right? Well sort of. I was doing good for about a week, until I decided to eat a Snickers at work.... And that's when it hit me. I felt like complete poop about 1/2 hour after eating that candy bar. My mind was in a fog, I was feeling sluggish and tired which also made me crabby.
You see, just because you or I are not diabetic doesn't mean sugar doesn't affect us. It does. And it's NOT GOOD.
Try cutting out sugar for a few days, go ahead and eat fruit if you want but stay away from refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup (read your labels carefully) and see what happens. You might be surprised.
