A Lifetime Of Unending Northern Ontario Fishing

Northern Ontario has the Best Variety of Fish in Some Very Secluded Waters

Ontario Fishing is by far the best variety of fish in some of the most secluded waters. Never mind fishing for a whole day without seeing another boat. In Northern Ontario I often fish for two weeks or more and never see another person. My lifetime ambition is to fish as many lakes as possible. As an introduction, here are some of my favorites. See you at the launch!

Dinner for the Whole Camp

The Top Five Reasons A Lifetime Of Unending Northern Ontario Fishing is the best fishing ever

  1. An unending supply of secluded lakes that will take you a lifetime to fish.
  2. Hungry and fearless fish, many who have never seen a fishing lure before.
  3. Days and days of fishing without seeing another boat.
  4. The call of the loon, the howl of the wolf and the lap of waves on glacial rocks.
  5. Shore lunch! Fresh fish from lake to pan to belly in less than 30 minutes.

The Algoma Central

Your gateway to some of Ontario's best fishing.

I ride the Algoma Central Railway to get to many of my favorite Northern Ontario Fishing camps. Starting at Sault Ste Marie can be an interesting trip. Some of the most beautiful scenery is through the Agawa Canyon. But mostly, I drive to the train station at Hawk Junction (just East of Wawa, Ontario) and jump on the northbound train there.

A Few Fishing Quotes...

"If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles." ~Doug Larson

"Man can learn a lot from fishing - when the fish are biting, no problem in the world is big enough to be remembered." ~Oa Battista

"Some go to church and think about fishing, others go fishing and think about God." ~Tony Blake

"Fishing isn't a matter of life and death. It's much more important." ~Unknown

Ice Fishing Too!

Soft water in N. Ontario is the best. Once I find a lake, I can zip around and try new spots in minutes. Well, maybe not always zip. There are plenty of rocks in N. Ontario waters. But it's still a lot faster than fishing on ice.

Having said that, some of the best N. Ontario fishing is hard water fishing. My favorite month is March. The ice is generally still good and thick but the sun is warmer and the days are getting longer and the fish are getting hungry and well, it's just a party!

My Favorite Fishing Hat

The Tilley

Tilley Endurables T4MO Eco-Airflo Hat,Khaki/Olive,7.625

Amazon Price: $66.57 (as of 02/22/2012)Buy Now

This hat is the best all around fishing hat I have ever had.
1. This hat lasts forever. And if it doesn't, Tilley will send you a new one at no charge, no matter the circumstances. Just don't lose it! Put your name and phone number on the inside.
2. There is a chin strap which keeps the hat on my head when I'm trolling into the wind. And as importantly, there is another strap that goes behind your head to keep the hat on your head when the wind comes from behind.
3. The hat floats!
4. There is a pocket on the inside for those things you always want with you. I never go fishing without this hat so my hat holds my fishing license and my boater's license.
5. Snap sides up or down, one side or both.
6. The hat comes in a variety of brim sizes. I like one just wide enough to shade me from the sun but not so wide I can't see where I'm motoring the boat. If you want a good beach hat, you might want a wider brim.
7. The hat holds up to washing beautifully. I was mine in the dishwasher but my friends have used the washing machine with no damage.
