The Academy Award For Best Picture Goes To...
The King's Speech (2010)
The King's Speech is rated R for language.
The King's Speech received many Oscar nominations and deservedly so. It was a beautifuly done movie and Colin Firth really did grow to fill the shoes of King George VI. Firth starred along with Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush. All three actors did a magnificent job and all three were nominated for Oscars. As many were predicting, The King's Speech was successful at the Academy Awards, taking home the Oscars for BEST PICTURE, ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE, DIRECTING AND WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY.)
Prince Albert (called Bertie) stuttered and hated public speaking. It was therefore understandable that he did NOT want to be King. However, when his father died and his brother abdicated the throne in order to marry a divorced Wallis Simpson, Bertie had to take the throne. Throughout the story, Bertie and his wife worked to cure his stammer. It is not until they meet an Australian actor that he is able to make any progress. An excellent and sometimes tense period drama which also had comic moments, The King's Speech was an early and favorite candidate for best picture.
The Other Movies Nominated For The Academy Award For Best Picture From 2010...
127 Hours (2010)
127 Hours is rated R for language and some disturbing violent content/bloody images.

127 Hours stars James Franco and Kate Mara and shares the amazing true story of Aron Ralston, an outdoor enthusiast. Trapped by a boulder in a Utah canyon while climbing, his story is one of amazing courage played out alone over a period of five days on a journey that is considered triumphant but is definitely one that no one should ever have to take.
Black Swan (2010)
Black Swan is rated R for strong sexual content, disturbing violent images, language and some drug use.
The movie Black Swan is a dark and troubling psychological thriller, which starred Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, both of whom turned in Oscar worthy performances. As a matter of fact, Portman generated much Oscar buzz for her role in this movie almost before it was released and went on to win the Oscar for BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE.In Black Swan, Portman's character wins the role of the White Swan in the ballet Swan Lake but then discovers she must also play the Black Swan. In order to play the Black Swan, she is required to dwell deeply into the sexual side of herself and her director's push in that direction combined with competition from a new dancer cause her to suffer a breakdown right in front of our eyes.

The Social Network (2010)
The Social Network is rated PG-13 for sexual content, drug and alcohol use and language.

The Social Network features Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake in a movie that tells the story of Facebook. Apparently, the idea for a movie about Facebook was as laughable as the creator's original idea of the social network we call Facebook but here we have a totally enjoyable movie that made it all the way to the Oscars.
The Social Network was heavily favored as Best Picture but lost that honor to The King's Speech. It did, however, win the Oscar for FILM EDITING, MUSIC (ORIGINAL SCORE) AND WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY).
Toy Story 3 (2010)
Toy Story 3 is rated G and deemed suitable for children old enough to enjoy a full length movie and for adults alike.
I'm in no position to state whether or not an animated movie has ever won an Oscar for Best Picture before but I do wonder. However, I am not surprised to find Toy Story 3 as one of the movies nominated for Best Picture at the 2011 Academy Awards for it was a movie that was truly well received. It appealed to young and old alike. It caused plenty of laughter for all and a strong sadness and sense of melancholy for all who grew up with the Toy Story franchise. It starred Woody and Buzz Lightyear, ah well, I guess I should say that it was VOICED by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen and was a hugely successful movie.
Toy Story 3 won Oscars for BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM AND FOR BEST MUSIC (ORIGINAL SONG).

- Have not seen The King's Speech, but it's on the wait list at Netflix and we will see it as soon as it's available there. Have been a longtime fan of Colin Firth, and this seems like a great place to congratulate him for Best Actor. So happy for him. :)
