Advices and info to stay in Rome

A short guide to some areas of Rome with advices about museums and venues. How to have info about the historical center in a few minutes!
My lens is about the Campo Marzio district, the influence of Renaissance style in the buildings, a couple of venues where to stay, and advice for a very good ice cream and a poll about you favourite kinds of events.

Holidays in Rome

best-place-to-stay-in-romeRome is renowned all over the world for its essential role in the development of western civilization, but would be an error to think that is a city where the ancient rests of Roman Empire are the one and only attraction.

Discover Rome, today, can be an amazing experience for a tourist, but also for the city dwellers that don't know very well their city.
The journey, usually, starts from the historical center, but only a few people know that next to the most famous monuments and the great squares exist attractive corners, nice suggestions for the most curious travellers.

For example, the Rione Campo Marzio (Campus Martius in Latin), an area that covers about 2 square kilometers, during the Middle Age was a multi-cultural place and a lot of people lived here. One of the most typical alley of this area is Vicolo del Leonetto: the name derives from a little marble lion on the corner of the street, a charming symbol of Roman tradition.

In the same street there are some boutiques, fine if you are a shopping addicted, and a homely hotel, useful if you need an accommodation in center.
The Due Torri is hosted in a Renaissance palace, and this coul be a pretext to discover another important period for Rome. This building was a residence for bishops, cardinals and nobles, thanks to the blend of elegance and comfort of this venue.
I felt the sensation of a little quiet town in the heart of a metropolis, really distinctive mood!

Art and history

best-place-to-stay-in-rome 2Staying in this area of Rome means that you can easily reach Pantheon, once a temple to the pagan Gods and now a Catholic church, Castel S.Angelo where there is an historical museum, and is also suggested for a breathtaking view of the city.
About the Hotel Due Torri, has 26 rooms available, furnished in classic style, and 4 little apartments for families or little group of friends. As an hotel near Spanish steps, is probably favourite by people that want all the historical Rome at a glance.

Others Renaissance palaces in the premises are Palazzo Altemps, that includes a private theatre, various collections of sculptures (Boncompagni-Ludovisi and Mattei) and some Egyptian works. For contemporary art lovers, instead, at Arco della Pace you find Chiostro del Bramante, that now guests paintings by Francesco Visalli and in the last years hosted exhibitions by Keith Haring, Basquiat and other famous artists.
I think that no one likes only culture, art and sightseeing: Italy is the homeland of gourmet!

Have an Ice cream at Pantheon

best-place-to-stay-in-rome 3This time my suggestion is focused on summer: if you like ice creams, try Gelateria Della Palma, at Via della Maddalena 20, very close to the Pantheon: a wide range of flavors, great sizes, natural ingredients.
Moving to Vatican, in Prati district, I have another advice for young people or in general who likes design and is always hip: Amor, a charming bed and breakfast, more cosy and with a familiar mood. Here the owners have designed the rooms in a modern style and can help guests to find restaurants, buy tickets for events, rent bikes for a trip through the city, provide any kind of information.
And you, what kind of event would you like to see in Rome?
