The Artists who create and Collectors who invest in plein-air paintings.

NEWS: PleinAir Magazine is BACK! Whether you are an artist or collector, subscribe or advertise today online. Stephen Steven Doherty, formerly editor of American Artist, is no the editor of the resurgence of PAM. We finally have a public voice again and this one will be better than ever. I can say this as I was the Founding Editor of the first PleinAir Magazine in 2004 with the same passionate Publisher, B. Eric Rhoads. No own with the article:

With the recent huge resurgence of outdoor painting over the last twenty years, more and more people are creating and collecting works done en plein air (in the open air). This feature is a work in progress...meaning, more data and rich content will be added. Enjoy, view, learn about and invest in the works of plein air painters.

Top five reasons artists paint en plein air

There are hundreds of reasons why artists paint on location. These five are what I have discovered are among the top of the heap:

  • To paint directly from life rather rather than using other means.
  • To interpret, not copy nature, architecture, people in their own way.
  • To experience the freshness and elements of being out-of-doors.
  • To paint in their back yard or across the globe in discovery of new colors, shapes, venues.
  • To strengthen, study and prepare for larger works in their studios.
