If you're a fan of poker like me and want to get better at the game, you need to put the time in to read about poker strategy and how to play key hands. You need to develop your skills at reading players and recognizing how they play. You also need to study a little bit about the math involved in the game.
Here, I want to share with you some of the best poker books you can use to improve you understanding of the game and to help increase your winnings.
Best poker tournament books
Three of the best poker books that have helped me with my poker tournament game are Dan Harrington's books - Harrington on Holdem, volumes 1, 2 and 3.
Best poker strategy books
Phil Gordon's Little Green Book and Little Blue Books are great at teaching you how to think about playing hands, how to think like a top pro and how to quickly calculate your winning percentage based on the number of outs you have.
Super System 1 and 2 are must haves for any serious poker player. They are 2 of the best poker strategy books ever published.
How to use the best poker books
Just reading the books is not enough to become a better poker player. If you want to have a chance at winning some of the bigger poker tournaments you have to practice. You have to keep trying to develop new skills. You can practice playing some smaller buyin games and try to be more aggressive or try and play more hands. There are plenty of small buyin SNGs and MTTs on Full Tilt Poker that you can try.
Once you practice what you've learned then you can go off to Vegas and try your shot at the World Series of Poker.
