What exactly is Rock n Roll?
From Wikipedia: Rock and roll (often written as rock & roll or rock 'n' roll) is a genre of popular music that originated and evolved in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s, primarily from a combination of the blues, country music, jazz, and gospel music. Though elements of rock and roll can be heard in country records of the 1930s, and in blues records from the 1920s, rock and roll did not acquire its name until the 1950s. An early form of rock and roll was rockabilly, which combined country and jazz with influences from traditional Appalachian folk music and gospel.
The term "rock and roll" now has at least two different meanings, both in common usage. The American Heritage Dictionary and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary[11] both define rock and roll as synonymous with rock music. Encyclopaedia Britannica, on the other hand, regards it as the music that originated in the mid-1950s and later evolved "into the more encompassing international style known as rock music." For the purpose of differentiation, this article uses the first definition, while the broader musical genre is discussed in the rock music article.
In the earliest rock and roll styles of the late 1940s and early 1950s, either the piano or saxophone was often the lead instrument, but these were generally replaced or supplemented by guitar in the middle to late 1950s. The beat is essentially a blues rhythm with an accentuated backbeat, the latter almost always provided by a snare drum. Classic rock and roll is usually played with one or two electric guitars (one lead, one rhythm), a string bass or (after the mid-1950s) an electric bass guitar, and a drum kit.
Rock and roll began achieving wide popularity in the 1960s. The massive popularity and eventual worldwide view of rock and roll gave it a widespread social impact. Bobby Gillespie writes that "When Chuck Berry sang 'Hail, hail, rock and roll, deliver me from the days of old,' that's exactly what the music was doing. Chuck Berry started the global psychic jailbreak that is rock'n'roll."
Far beyond simply a musical style, rock and roll, as seen in movies and on television, influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes, and language. It went on to spawn various sub-genres, often without the initially characteristic backbeat, that are now more commonly called simply "rock music" or "rock."

AC-DC
From the AC-DC official website: More than three decades into a career that shows no signs of slowing down or letting up, AC/DC, like electricity itself, provides the world with an essential source of power and energy. Since forming in 1973, AC/DC's high voltage rock 'n' roll has flowed out into the world via consistently sold-out concert tours and global sales totaling more than 150 million albums and counting. Sony BMG Music Entertainment's #1 best-selling catalog act worldwide,
AC/DC HAS SOLD NEARLY 70 MILLION ALBUMS IN THE U.S. ALONE, MAKING AC/DC ONE OF THE FIVE TOP-SELLING BANDS IN AMERICAN MUSIC HISTORY.
One of the group's best-loved works, the enormously successful and influential "Back In Black," has achieved RIAA "Double Diamond" status, for sales in excess of 22 million copies in the United States, and is the U.S.'s fifth largest-selling album ever.
But the roots of AC/DC lie back in Australia, and before that Glasgow, Scotland, where Angus and Malcolm Young, the musical core of the band (and still the most formidable guitar team in rock history), were born (in 1958 and 1953, respectively). In 1963, the Young family migrated to Sydney, Australia, where music would make its mark on the brothers. (As a member of the Easybeats, Angus and Malcolm's older sibling, George Young, was responsible for one of Australia's first international hits, "Friday On My Mind," in 1966. From 1974 through 2000, George and musical collaborator, Harry Vanda, produced a number of AC/DC albums including "High Voltage,," "T.N.T.," "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap," "Let There Be Rock," "If You Want Blood You've Got It," "Powerage," "'74 Jailbreak," "Who Made Who," "Blow Up Your Video," and "Stiff Upper Lip.")
The band consists of 5 members, a vocalist (Brian Johnson), two electric guitarists ( Angus and Malcolm Young), a Bass Guitarist ( Cliff Williams) and Phil Rudd on the drums.

Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighter have released 9 albums and are one of my favourite bands, there first album was released in 1995 and was called " Foo Fighters" and there most recent one which was released this year (2011) and is called " Wasting Light"The band has four members, Dave Grohl (lead vocals, rhythm and lead guitars, drums), Nate Mendal (Bass Guitar), Taylor Hawkins (drums, backing vocals) Chris Shiflett ( lead & rhythm guitars, backing vocals) and Pat Smear (rhythm guitar)
From Wikipedia: Foo Fighters is an American alternative rock band originally formed in 1994 by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl as a one-man project following the dissolution of his previous band. The band got its name from the UFOs and various aerial phenomena that were reported by Allied aircraft pilots in World War II, which were known collectively as foo fighters. Prior to the release of the Foo Fighters' 1995 debut album Foo Fighters, which featured Grohl as the only official member, Grohl drafted bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith, both formerly of Sunny Day Real Estate, as well as fellow Nirvana touring bandmate Pat Smear as guitarist to complete the lineup. The band began with performances in Portland, Oregon before gaining popularity. Goldsmith quit during the recording of the group's second album, The Colour and the Shape (1997) when most of the drum parts were re-recorded by Grohl himself. Smear's departure followed soon afterward. They were replaced by Taylor Hawkins and Franz Stahl, respectively, although Stahl was fired before the recording of the group's third album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999).
The band briefly continued as a trio until Chris Shiflett joined as the band's lead guitarist after the completion of There Is Nothing Left to Lose. The band released its fourth album, One by One, in 2002. The group followed that release with the two-disc In Your Honor (2005), which was split between acoustic songs and heavier material. Foo Fighters released its sixth album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, in 2007. In 2010, it was confirmed that Smear had officially rejoined the band after touring with the Foo Fighters as an unofficial member between 2006 and 2009. Over the course of the band's career, three of its albums have won Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album, and all six albums have been nominated. The band's seventh studio album, Wasting Light, was released in 2011.

Eskimo Joe
Eskimo Joe is another one of the great Australian rock bands, their songs have been famous around the world, they have won 6 ARIAS and have had 9 nominations and have hit gold, platinum and double platinum with their songs. They formed in 1997 at Freemantle, Western Australia. The band consists of 3 members : Stuart McLeod ( guitar, backing vocals), Joel Quartermain (drums (while recording) guitar, keyboard and backing vocals) and Kavyen Temperely (Bass, keyboard, vocals)From the Website: WA trio Eskimo Joe has come a long way since their humble beginnings as much-loved indie rock kids in Fremantle, Western Australia.
Through the early EP's, Sweater and the self-titled Eskimo Joe, featuring "Turn Up Your Stereo", they endeared themselves to kids country-wide. The EPs were closely followed by their debut album, Girl, featuring beautiful indie ballad, "Liar", and singles, "Who Sold Her Out" and "Wake Up". Using striking visuals with cutting edge video clips and artwork, the band impressed the public and critics alike with a gold selling collection. Their experiences as a band progressed them musically into their second full-length album, A Song Is A City, produced by Paul McKercher and the band. The single "From the Sea" launched them to a massive double-platinum selling success and a spoke of what was to come.
2006's Black Fingernails, Red Wine, was the culmination of all their previous works in a cohesive and pounding shot of dark rock that hit straight at the heart of Australians. Debuting at number one on the national album charts and four-times platinum sales later, the three-piece, which now have two extra touring members, hit the road in the US, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Korea and the UK to support releases internationally.
Inshalla, their next musically diverse and internationally flavoured fourth offering delivered a Led Zeppelin tinged, middle eastern flavoured single in "Foreign Land", which earned the band the most played Australian song on radio in 2009, along with an APRA award for "Best Rock Song".
Ghosts Of The Past, the band's fifth studio album was released on August 12, 2011 and the first single - "Love Is A Drug" quickly became Australia's most added song to radio in it's first week, with the album debuting in the #3 position in the ARIA charts upon it's release. Featuring the production team from Black Fingernails, Red Wine - Ghosts of The Past is a return to Eskimo Joe's rock roots.
Ghosts Of The Past is out now through Warner Music Australia / Dirt Diamonds Productions and at available at all good record stores and digitally online. The new single "Echo" is at radio now.

Cold Chisel
Last but not least is Cold Chisel. Cold Chisel was around long before I was born, like most of the other bands, but this one would have to be coming in second (Nickelback's my favourite) but Cold Chisel is one of the best rock bands ever. The band started up in 1973 and started up with 5 band members. Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Steve Prestwich, Phill Small and Don Walker.During 2010, Cold Chisel undertook two recording sessions, their first in 12 years. With plans to continue performing and recording, the band was gutted in January 2011 when drummer Steve Prestwich died suddenly as a result of complications from a brain tumour. After a period of reflection, the band announced in late March that it would continue the recording they'd begun with Prestwich in 2010, engaging drummer Charley Drayton to complete the sessions.
Cold Chisel have released 12 albums which are: Teenage Love (1994) , The Last Wave Of Summer (1998), Twentieth Century (1984), Circus Animals (1982), East (1980), Breakfast At Sweethearts (1979), Cold Chisel (1978), The Complete Cold Chisel (July 2011) Besides, (July 2011), Never Before (July 2011), Covered (August 2011), Best of all for you ( October 2011)
