Why Smoothies
Smoothie #1- Protein Power
- Serves: 1
- Total Time: 10 Min.
This smoothie is the best choice for an after-workout snack, to repair your muscles. If you are going to workout after eating this smoothie, I would recommend giving the smoothie time to digest, as this is the highest calorie and most rich of the smoothies on this page. This smoothie has a lot of protein for me, but as a runner and a swimmer, I don't need that much protein. Here is a nutrition fact breakdown of this recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 Milk
- 2 Teaspoons Peanut Butter
- 1 Medium or Large Banana
- 13 Almonds
- 8 Ice Cubes
Instructions
Combine milk, peanut butter, and banana in blender. Next add your almonds and ice. Blend until smooth.

Smoothie #2- Berry Blast
- Serves: 1
- Total Time: 10 Min.
This smoothie is a great way to get lots of fruit in your diet. Drink this before you workout, as it is very light. This smoothie also has a lot of fiber and water, two things that are very important to consume a lot of. This smoothie is very healthy because there isn't any "filler", it is all good, healthy, delicious fruit. Using frozen fruit makes it possible not to use ice, and has a very strong flavor, unlike fresh fruit. You can do this recipe with any fresh or frozen fruit, but my favorite combination is orange juice with frozen strawberries and raspberries, fresh mango and strawberries, as well as a banana. I also make smoothies with frozen blueberries and blackberries, and fresh kiwi.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Orange Juice or Cranberry Juice
- 1 Cup Frozen Fruit
- Up to 2/3 Cup Fresh Fruit
Instructions
First, pour your juice into the blender. Next, pour in all of your frozen fruit. Blend until smooth. Lastly, put in any fresh fruit you may have. Do not blend for long after adding your fresh fruit, or you won't notice it.
Smoothie #3- The Fruity Greek
- Serves: Slightly > 1
- Total Time: 10 Mins.
This smoothie is a combination of the other two smoothies. It combines dairy with fruit. This is my least favorite of the three smoothies on this page, but it is has the most full range of nutrients, and therefore the healthiest. I use greek yogurt for this recipe because it is my favorite yogurt, it is very thick and has a slightly tangy taste.
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Fat-Free Milk
- 1/4 Cup Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 Cup Fruit Juice
- 2/3 Cup Frozen Fruit
- Up to 1/2 Cup Fresh Fruit
Instructions
First combine the milk, juice, and greek yogurt in your blender. Next, add your frozen fruit. Blend. Add your fresh fruit, don't over blend.
Drink #4- Chocolate Milk
- Serves: 1
- Total Time: 5 Min.
This is not really a smoothie, its more of a drink, but it has the "perfect" carbohydrate-fat-protein ratio, which is 60-20-20. If you workout a lot, chocolate milk is one of the best after workout drinks you can have. Here is a nutrition fact breakdown of this recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Fat-Free Milk
- 2.5 Teaspoons Half-and-Half
- 1.5 Teaspoons Unsweetened Baking Cocoa Powder
- 1.5 Teaspoons Sugar
Instructions
Mix together. For a smoother drink, use a blender.
