For less then $5 with shipping you can get a solar "dinky" car that is the size of the matchbox cars we all grew up playing with. The cars are so light that you can't really smashed them up like the good old days but you sure can captivate an audience as they are wowed by this small car driving quick by itself down the sidewalk. Also kids get really excited about them and will start asking questions immediately. The small hand held bugs fall into this same category but since they cost about the same I much prefer the car since the bugs just sort of squirm and don't always actually move around. Solar fans come in two types, dork and super dork. So you may never actually wear one of these things in public however they never need batteries and are very portable. The main type available is the clip on type that is a simple panel on top, fan on the bottom, and a clip in the middle. You simply stick in on the brim of any hat and as long as the sun is shinning you will have a cool breeze in your face.

Both are great for fishing, golf, hiking, camping, sitting on a patio, or if your car doesn't have air conditioning but does have a sun roof!

The second type is super dork. It is an actual hat will the fan built right into the brim. So any time your wearing this hat even in a snow storm the fan will be spinning. I don't recommend this style as it's more expensive. You decide for yourself as both ebay listings are below.

If you were to only bring one thing camping besides a cell phone it should be a solar multi-tool flashlight. The ones on the lower end of the price scale come with a flash light and radio stations to keep up to date on bad weather. Some even have an ipod and cell phone charger which could be a life saver if your cell phone were out of juice in an emergency.

Eton makes a higher end one that also can double as a flashing beacon to signal for help and an automatic weather alert system for in-climate weather.
