Every household needs a high quality but affordable steam iron. If you haven't purchased one in a while, searching through all the features steam irons offer today can be quite intimidating.

There are some great steam irons to choose from with some familiar names (Black and Decker, Bosch, Panasonic) and some new names (Rowenta and Delonghi).

To assist you with the process I have created this lens to review and recommend the best steam irons on the market today.

Here's what makes a steam iron a best buy

There are 4 "musts" the best steam irons should possess before I will feature them

Bottom line: it should make every aspect of ironing as easy as possible.

1. It Must Be Durable - Irons should be built to last. It should be sturdy and have a "quality" feel to it, even if it is affordable. I don't mind plastic but it shouldn't feel cheap.

2. It Must Have Some Bang For The Buck - Some irons are fabulous but for the expense they aren't THAT much better than the next iron. Overall cost will be given consideration as well as the features at each price point.

3. Easy To Use - Top rated irons should heat up quickly and generate loads of steam. The cord should be placed in an appropriate place with consideration for the ergonomic design of the iron. It should feel comfortable in either hand. I'm left-handed so I tend to be more sensitive to this.

4. Easy To Care For - Irons need to be cleaned occasionally and that should be very easy for the average user. Irons that need to be taken apart for routine cleaning or maintenance will not be recommended. When I think of a good iron I think of it being a really low maintenance appliance and not something I need to pay a lot of attention to to keep it working well.
