Best Tasting Low Carb Foods

Doing Low Carb? Getting Bored?

I started a low carbohydrate diet because of a health issue (fibromyalgia), and it was easy at first, but not so easy as I started to get better, and therefore didn't have as much motivation. Plus, I really wanted to be eating what my family and friends were eating around me.

These days, although I am not still on a 'diet' I do prefer to eat more low and moderate carb and I am ALWAYS on the lookout for a yummy and fun low-carbohydrate meal.

Let me share with you the all the yummy, fun, good-tasting, low carb food I have found. And please, if you don't see your favorite on the list, leave me a comment!

The Best Tasting Low-Carb Pasta

(and my favorite low-carb pasta)!

dreamfields pasta boxThe best tasting low-carb pasta is hands-down Dreamfields. It only has 5 grams digestible carbs per serving and it tastes marvelous - easily as good as any regular pasta. I feed it to my family (none of whom are eating low-carb) and they don't know the difference. They have no idea.

I buy it by the case to keep costs down.

I once read on the Internet that a woman who was diabetic and checking her blood sugar after she ate it had no rise in blood sugar the first time, but when she re-heated it she did have a little rise in blood sugar, so I never reheat it. I just make as much as I can eat at a time.

Try it, I think you'll like it :)

Ooh, lately I signed up with dreamfields to get a taste and tell kit. They send you a bunch of coupons for a dollar off to give to your friends. The newspaper inserts have also had coupons for 55 cents off, so that helps with costs too. Combine a coupon with a sale and it's almost like you are buying regular pasta.

Combine a $1 off coupon with a doubler at Albertsons and the price is down to .99 a box - BETTER than regular pasta :)

Best Tasting Low Carb Protein Powder

Only 1 gram Carb with No sugar alcohols or fake sugars

Jay Robb Enterprises - Whey Vanilla 24oz, 24 oz powder

Amazon Price: $37.89 (as of 05/29/2012)Buy Now

This stuff tastes wonderful. It's very light with a hint of sweet. I'm pregnant right now and protein is not agreeing with me but I don't want to gain 50 pounds like I did last pregnancy eating all that ice cream and carbs - so 3 of these protein shakes a day is really helping me a lot.

The Best Tasting Low Carb Bread

I've tried a few low-carb bread versions, and none of them are exactly like regular bread, how can they be? But, there is one low-carb bread that is TRULY low carb (only 1 gram net carbs) and still can be toasted or dipped in soup and taste quite good. It's OK on sandwiches too, but I like only one slice, otherwise it can overwhelm whatever is in it.

It's Julian's Smart Carb #1. Check it out. :)

Low Carbohydrate Milk

Great Tasting and SO HEALTHY

So Delicious, Organic Unsweetened Coconut Milk, Aseptic Package, 12/32

Amazon Price: $37.52 (as of 05/29/2012)Buy Now

This is the milk I drink. I get it in the refrigerated section of fred meyers or the health food store but if you have to get it online, this is shelf-stable.

It is SOOOOO GOOOD for you. After I started drinking at least a cup a day - an abcessed tooth I had reversed itself. I try to drink as much as possible. It has one gram of carbs in it. If you aren't eating any or much sugar it may taste slightly sweet to you. it does to me.

Best Tasting Low Carb Chocolate

choco perfectionThis is an easy one. Chocoperfection!. At only 2 grams net carbs, this is truly low carb. I like the milk chocolate one the best. It tastes quite good and has a perfect chocolate-bar texture. This is another one to buy in bulk to keep costs down.

Best Tasting Low Carbohydrate Tortilla Wrap

The Mission Carb Balance White Flour Tortillas taste really, really good. I love them. They taste so good you have to wonder ... :)

I agree that Julian Bakery Smart Carb breads tastes great, but their Carb Zero breads smell stinky and are not palatable. Since JB does not allow any unfavorable comments about these to be published on their own website and JB sponsors other low-carb websites, it is not easy to learn the truth, So, if you are ordering online, beware because you could waste a lot of money. If you buy this at a store, you should be okay because they will accept returns.

I haven't tried the zero carb bread yet. I can't imagine it's great, since it's made from psyllium seed. but I'll be willing to spend the money to try it.

After many years of infertility, I got pregnant the very next cycle after I started a low-carb diet. I hadn't ovulated in probably 10 years before that. I don't do low-carb anymore. I lean more towards raw vegan, but for sure, anyone experiencing infertility, that also has insulin resisitance/pcos issues should try low-carb.

I am now using stevia drops, from Whole Foods. Also, Stop and Shop grocery stores sell an Italian Bread that is only two carbs a slice. AND, it tastes like real bread. My favorite treat, when I was low carb, was frozen Cool Whip. We called it our "diet ice cream". We would scoop some out and top with chopped nuts. I don't think I would have survived without my diet ice cream.
  • lisakleinweber May 29, 2012 @ 2:27 pm | delete
fascinating!!! I can't use stevia. My body reacts to it like sugar :(
  • Centavo May 18, 2012 @ 8:30 pm | delete
I make my own low carb chocolate kisses. I keep them in the deep freeze frozen and when I get a craving a pop one instead of some other high carb treat.

Dreamfields pasta is a lifesaver for those of us that have been told to cut out pastas. Great lens.

I don't think we can get these brands in the UK but I'm certainly going to look for some alternatives. My sister in law suffers from fibromyalgia and I'm not sure if she's looked at the dietary aspect or not yet - thanks for the tip!
  • miaponzo Apr 2, 2012 @ 3:26 am | delete
Oh how I WISH we could get this stuff here in Kuwait! But I AM ordering some of the things that aren't going to weigh a ton from Amazon! I'm excited! Blessed!

I did low carb before I became a vegetarian and it was nice to be able to eat eggs and meat but I sure did miss chocolate. This lens is great!

  • hartworks Mar 8, 2012 @ 3:51 pm | delete
I eat a few carbs now and then but really build my diet around veggies, veggies, and veggies! Plus I do eat healthy meat, that is free range etc. I almost never eat sugar, and never go the splenda route. Xylitol is a favorite of mine too.
  • 24websurf Mar 5, 2012 @ 9:26 pm | delete
I needed these recommendations. Our diet is getting boring! We do, however, use instant sugar free, fat free chocolate pudding and mix it with regular frozen whipped cream for a great low carb desert. And if we want another flavor like banana pudding, we just change the pudding flavor. It helps keep things easy.
  • Joan4 Mar 1, 2012 @ 12:51 pm | delete
I must try that pasta! Hubby stays on a low carb diet, and I should!
  • lbrummer Feb 16, 2012 @ 3:16 am | delete
I'm going to see if my grocer has the pasta. If you are interested, check out some of my recipes on my lens about a diet that really works---there's a recipe to use the tortilla (I love the Mission Carb Balance ones) to make individual pizzas. They are really great. Thanks for the great ideas.

I don't like any brand of Stevia but KAL. It is amazing and puts the others to shame. I think you would be surprised.

My husband and I are always watching our carbs. I love this lens and I can't wait to try some of the things you have one here. He loves pasta, so that will be a hit. The one major thing I have found is Walden Farms salad dressing. No Carbs, No Fat, No nothing, but it tastes good. My fav is the Balsamic Vinegarette. I find it at HyVee, but not all of them. They do sell it online. I even use it as a marinade for steaks.

    Great lens!!! Thanks

I love sugar free yogurt. But that Julian's Bread and Chocoperfection really looks good! I'll check that out. Nice lens. Thanks.

I have yet to find a good low carb pasta. I never tried Dreamfields and I have never seen it here in NYC but I am thinking of trying it now. Most of the low-carb pastas I have tried have been so gummy or unappealing.
  • lisakleinweber Apr 14, 2011 @ 1:25 pm | delete
dreamfields is JUST like real pasta. You will be surprised :)
  • Tracey Jun 12, 2011 @ 3:19 pm | delete
