Whether these are the metropoles like New York or Tokio or the Himalayas, there's nothing that can capture a place in all its splendor better than a good movie.

Into The Wild
Into the wild
tells the story of Christopher McCandless who, after graduating college, gives up all his possessions and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. During those travels he meets all sorts of characters who help him in his life's journey.
The movie shows you the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska, the beauty of the Colorado river and the sights of the great American roads. It tells you what life can be like when you're on the road alone and the consequences that your actions can have.

Lost in Translation
Lost in Translation
tells the story of Bob, an over-the-hill actor, and Charlotte, a newly-wed college graduate, who meet in a hotel in Tokio during their jet-lagged hours and start to spend time together to fight off their loneliness. During that time the start to grow together, despite both knowing their time together most end.
One of my favorite movies of all time, it also shows Japan in all its facets. There's Tokia with its highrise and high tech billboards and strange nighlife, bars and restaurants. But also Kioto and its temples are shown in all its serenity.

The Art Of Travel
is a great example of a story where someone finds his true self while traveling by opening up to the opportunities that present themselves. Combined with great shots of the South American wilderness and nature.

The Motorcycle Diaries
The Motorcycle Diaries
tells the story of young Che Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado on their roadtrip through the South American continent. This trip formed Che's life's outlook on his way to becoming the famous revolutionary he is today.
This is the essential road trip movie which shows you all the things that South America has to offer. From the mountain tops to the ancient temples, from the sea to the river Amazon and from the metropole cities to the small villages. But most of all it's an example of how travel can change you.

Before Sunrise / Before Sunset
Before Sunrise
tells the story of Jesse and Celine who have a chance encounter in a train and end up spending a night in Vienna. In Before Sunset
we meet them again 10 years later. While walking the streets of Paris they talk about what could've been and how their lives have turned out after their initial meeting.
Besides both being great romantic movies, they also show you around the towns of Vienna in Austria and Paris in France. Although the cities serve as a backdrop to the story, local spots like a cemetery in Vienna give you a glimpse in what these places have to offer.

James Bond movies
Is there anywhere in the world where James Bond hasn't been to protect Queen and country? The Bahamas (Dr. No, Thunderball, Casino Royale), Japan (You only live twice), South America (Quantum of Solace, License to Kill), India (Octopussy) and China (The man with the golden gun, Tomorrow never dies) are just a few examples of regions and countries the secret agent has been conducting his trade.
His globetrotting ways are one of James Bond's most attractive features and together with the action and suspense makes every Bond movie a great spectacle. Not to mention the fact they show some of the worlds best locations to go to.

Seven years in Tibet
In Seven Years in Tibet
Heinrich Harrer travels to the Himalayas to climb mountains for glory, but in stead ends up being imprisoned after WWII breaks out. After several attempts he succeeds in escaping and ends up in Lhasa where he meets a young Dalai Lama.
The scenery of the Himalayan mountains is breathtaking in this movie as is the scenery of Lhasa. Although being one of the most remote places in the world, by seeing this movie you'll think it is well worth a visit.
