I am planning on hitting the mountains this winter for a much anticipated ski and snowboard trip. Check out the latest information below on getting a great deal on airfare, lodging and lift tickets around the Western United States.

There is tons of information out there if your are planning a trip and after a little time it becomes overwhelming trying to filter everything. I hope the job is a little easier with providing information on the 3 top resorts that are worth a look for your 2012 trip.

The Resort List: Vail, Big Sky and Grand Targhee

These three resorts offer a little bit of everything from vast acres of ski and snowboard area to the laid back attitude of a small resort.

The first one on the list is Vail, Colorado. I understand Vail is one of the first resorts one thinks of when planning a ski trip, but there is a good reason that so many people enjoy this place. The area has over 5,000 acres of terrain from beginner to advanced. A total of 31 lifts and 1 Gondola. If you are flying out West the resort is easily accessible by flying into the Denver Airport and then driving 100 miles west. 2011-2012 Full Day Adult lift tickets are $99 and children ages 5-12 are $68.

Next up is Big Sky Resort located in just 45 minutes outside of Bozeman, Montana. I have heard the scenery here is worth the trip alone. The resort offers 150 runs and 21 lifts. The lifts lines here are short which allows for extra runs during your day. 2011-2012 Full Day Adult lift tickets are $84. Kids 10 and Under ski free!! Plenty of great bargain deals that can be found on their website.

Grand Targhee is the place to hit if you want great snow and remote location. This resort is accessible by many different points but when I visited the resort we traveled a short hour from Jackson, Wyoming. This area receives over 500 inches of snow in a year and offers access to the powder via Snowcat if you desire. There is a total of 4 lifts and 72 trails. 2011-2012 Full Day Adult lift tickets are $69.
