Ten Great Vampire Books / Series For Your Reading List

If you are looking for something new to sink your teeth into in the world of vampire fiction then check out some of the best series in this genre below.

The Noble Dead Series

Novels By Barb & J. C. Hendee

If you are looking for the best in modern vampire fiction then look no further than the Noble Dead series by Barb and J. C. Hendee!

These books are a somewhat unique mix of gothic horror and high fantasy which has been described as a blend of The Lord Of The Rings and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

A truly engrossing read, these books centre around the dhampir Magiere, a half-human half-vampire with one heck of a complex past and an increasingly complicated future.

The Noble Dead Series sends Magiere, her half-elven assassin partner Leesil, fay hound Chap and others on an increasingly engaging adventure to unravel the mysteries which enshroud their existences.

The Necroscope Series

Books By Brian Lumley

If you like your vampires viscious, bloody, gory and totally without any sense of remorse or empathy for the human cattle upon which they prey, then the Brian Lumley's Necroscope series is for you.

These books are something of a cross between a cold war espionage novel and horror fiction as they are based around the exploits of our hero the Necroscope Harry Keogh and the British E-Branch (a secret government agency which employs psychics of various abilities) and their battles against the Russian equivalent as well as various evils which walk the earth.

The Necroscope series is both complex and unique in its imaginative exploration of ESPionage and the ancient evil vampires which these espers reluctantly must face in their bid to protect humanity from a scourge which threatens to break out in a world of unbelievers.

The Vampire Chronicles

Novels By Anne Rice

Not your typical throat-ripping yarn, this is the series which revitalised the vampire genre back when the first book in the series Interview With The Vampire was released back in the mid 1970's.

Moody Angst Ridden Vampire Tales

Vampire World Trilogy

Novels By Brian Lumley

Continuing on from The Necroscope series, the Vampire World books by Brian Lumley delve deeper into the depraved world of the vampire lords and ladies he created, this time back in their own world beyond the gate.

The Vampire World trilogy consists of Blood Brothers, The Last Aerie and Bloodwars and is almost guaranteed to be some of the most inventive and horrific vampire fiction you will have read.

The Southern Vampire Mysteries

Vampire Novels By Charlaine Harris

Vampires are out of the closet (coffin?) and living among us in The Southern Vampire Mysteries. Our heroine Sookie Stackhouse is even dating one and loving the fact that for once, she can not read his mind which whilst a pain in most instances (especially relationshipwise) becomes highly useful in her night job of solving murders in the big city.

Placed somewhere between the Dresden Files and Kim Harrison's novels, The Southern Vampire mysteries are fun and have recently been adapted into an excellent HBO TV series called True Blood.

Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series

By Laura K. Hamilton

Vampirism has been legalised in just one state which naturally makes it a haven for vampires amongst other things. So long as they abide by the rules, vampires are free to walk among us.

For those who do not, there's only one punishment - execution...and that's where Anita Blake steps in.

Fast paced, with a fair amount of sexual tension which in later books will firmly place this series in the supernatual erotica genre, these books are an entertaining vampire romp.

The Dresden Files

by Jim Butcher

Fast paced and action packed this is more the tale of a wizard in modern day Chicago than it is a straight out vampire novel but vampires feature so prevalently in the books this is a series which is definitely worth a mention or two.

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyers

The pinnacle of teen vampire fiction, Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga has sold over 50 million copies worldwide (as of 2008) and has a huge fanbase of loyal fans. The Twilight movie is due for a US theatrical release date of November 21st 2008 and looks set to be just as popular as the books. As young adult vampire fantasy novels go, Twilight seems to have revitalised the genre and it looks like teenager vampire books are seeing a resurgeance based upon its success.

Rachel Morgan Series

by Kim Harrison

Set in a world in which a vast portion of the human population was killed off by a mutation in genetically modifed tomatoes, Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series offers us an alternate human history where vampires, witches, shapeshifters and other creatures of legend finally reveal themselves as real and integrate with the remainder of human society.

I know of a great new series by a new and up and coming author named Steve Russell, the series is called Jacyn's Journey and its a must read. I absolutely could not put the books down. He's truly a talented writer. You can find the series at www.jacyns-journey.com. He takes the time to talk to his fans and is even putting together a roleplay section for those who enjoy roleplay. You should really check it out.

Amazing lens! For eons now, I have been a huge fan of the Necroscope series ... and the rest of Brian Lumley books for that matter. It was so hard to find the books around here when they first came out ... long before the Internet explosion - I have fond memories of frantically trying to hunt down each of them with my mother (who was also a huge fan)!

An amazing twist on your standard vampires - no other series compares!
