Best Vita Action Games

Ranked #2,375 in Games, #91,750 overall

Heart-Pounding and Thumb-Dancing

The best Vita action games are the ones that really get your blood pumping, and make your worry at every second that your character might experience a gruesome, momentary absence from reality (before cheerfully reappearing on the screen).

If you like fast-paced games, and like to work on developing your hand-eye coordination, you're probably a true fan of the action gaming genre. Read on to find a list of Vita games that should perfectly suit your tastes.

I've also created a separate list for the action sub-genres "fighting," (involving mainly battles with two characters duking it out in an arena) which you can find here: Best Vita Fighting Games and "shooting," which you can find here: Best Vita Shooting Games.

If you're instead looking for the overall best games, regardless of genre, check out this list of the best PS Vita games.

Honorable Mentions

Vote Them Up Below!

Little Deviants: Just one look at these little guys, and you know they've got trouble in store for you or anyone else who gets in their way. This game, which is included with the PlayStation Vita First Edition Bundle, is made up of a variety of fun mini-games, and will be a great way to experience the new Vita controls and gameplay styles.

Rayman Origins: Plenty of people are excited about the resurrection of this oldie-but-goodie. Rayman represents true platforming goodness at its best, with a ton of fun environments to jump, run, and slide your way through.

Disgaea 3 - Absence of Detention: The newest entry in the Disgaea franchise represents a truly epic adventure, available at your fingertips. Depending on how you decide to play, you can actually end up changing what happens in the game. If you're an action-lover who leans towards RPGs, this will probably be a good fit.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus: If you like Ninja Gaiden, you like Ninja Gaiden, and there's not much else to it. Nice features of this game include the ability to switch between first and third person view, depending on which style you prefer, and to use the Vita controls for more precise targeting. Speaking of targeting, you won't be stuck with just a gun, as there are a variety of spectacular weapons to choose from.

Shinobido 2 - Revenge of Zen: Here's a good game for all you people out there who like pretending to be sneaky ninjas. Interesting features include using the rear touchpad to change the point of view and swapping in-game items with nearby players (over the network).

Dungeons have always been a favorite setting for games, and plenty of franchises have taken advantage of the love players show for dark, mysterious catacombs, where you never know what's going to come at you next. Play alone, or invite other Dungeon Hunters to join you in your quest against mythical baddies of all sorts.

Touch My Katamari

A Kooky Japanese Creation

Touch My Katamari

List Price: $29.99

I'm guessing that just about no one (outside of the Katamari-genre game developers) could have guessed that gathering stuff into a huge ball would become a wildly popular style of play. Newcomers to the genre will enjoy the fun and fast-paced action, and regulars will like the way the PlayStation touchscreen and touchpad have been integrated.

Depending on your previous experience with LittleBigPlanet, you might see the game as more of a creation tool than an action tool. Luckily for action fans, it more than delivers in this arena with missions that involve running, jumping, and dodging obstacles in a true platformer fashion. The integration of actions such as tilting and tapping the screen will keep you from getting bored of the same old repetitive moves.
