Songs
If you have a good grasp of the basics of rock guitar you'll be able to advance to advanced musical levels. You will progress to chord construction, chord progressions, and song structure. Learning scales and intervals that will improve your solo and rhythm techniques.
Just learning how to play songs one by one is not enough. Knowing what you are playing will help you to relate to recurring chord patterns in other songs as well. A lot of musical forms are repetitive, no matter what style of music you want to play.

Putting Everything Together
Chords, scales and solos are all based off of intervals that depend on the root note or key, you are working with. You'll learn the fingering for two triads (3 note chords) and you will instantly know all of the major and minor chords on the guitar.
You'll also learn the fingering for one major and one minor scale, and you will then know all of those scales in all of the keys just by starting on a different fret.
