The Best Ways to Increase Your Sales on Ebay and Make Your Auctions a More Profitable Business

The best ways to increase your sales on Ebay are to make your auctions more attractive to buyers, and to find new avenues as a seller to find new customers. Ebay isn't the only website out there where customers are looking for your products. Many buyers use search engines to seek out fulfill their purchase. Once you have your buyer in your store, you need to do everything you can to make them stay! Make an attractive store, layout, and overall great experience to retain those visitors within your Ebay business. Read on to find some easy tips to make your auctions more profitable, to get more traffic headed to your auctions, and to make your business more successful.

Increase Traffic and Find New Business Leads with These Easy Ebay Seller Tips

Start finding new avenues to sell your Ebay items and find what buyers want

* 1. Learn the basics of web copy writing and entice more buyers to your auctions.

* 2. Consider using sites like Bizrate and Shopzilla (via their merchant programs) to advertise your items in a price shopping comparison style.

* 3. Have as many online channels to be found on as possible. For growing businesses, focus on informational pages on your website, or start branching out externally through Squidoo, Hubpages, and through eBay Guides.

* 4. Start reviewing some of your popular items through eBay's reviews section. A valuable link to your store, and they only take a few minutes.

* 5. Pick one item from your eBay store daily and use your eBay store blog to describe and market it. Free, easy, and sure to attract some search engine visibility.

* 6. Customize your My World page to include details linking to your store, guides, reviews, blog posts, and include some basic information about yourself.

* 7. Really sell yourself by creating an excellent about me page for your business.. This is important!
Your About Me page is the one place you're allowed to link to outside of eBay. Use it wisely!

* 8. Install a custom counter on your auctions for seasonal items to make your listing more festive, if you have a visible counter.

* 9. Check your eBay fees often. Reporting does mess up. You may find yourself being charged twice for the same auction, not being credited store referrals, or being charged incorrect final value fees for items that you've relisted. Doing a quick scan of your fees can save you plenty of money, especially when you have numerous auctions ending on a regular basis.

* 10. Accurately measure, photograph, and describe the product. The more detail and honesty you provide, the less work overall for you in the form of returns, and the happier your customers will be! Double check your auction before making it live.

* 11. Always keep your eyes out for new, interesting product at places like yard sales, outlet stores, Craigslist, and through word of mouth. These items will drive traffic to your store and get you noticed by a new crowd. See more examples of places to find eBay inventory here.

* 12. Talk about your eBay store. If you don't tell people, then you're losing out on the most powerful form of advertising -- word of mouth.Learn how to create the perfect auction listing by following these tips outlined here.

* 13. Consider cutting your costs by investing more time than money. In other words, offer to sell other people's stuff in your neighborhood, from family, acquaintances, and friends. Broadcast this fact via email and you're sure to get a few takers.

* 14. Nothing attracts people like unique, handmade products. Get in touch with a productive artist, crafts person, or a group of artists and create your own online eBay gallery.

* 15. Use sites to generate links to your store like listmystore.com. Get as many good quality incoming links to your store as possible for better search engine placement.

* 16. Consider opening up your bidding internationally. Even if you only sell to a handful of more countries like the UK, Canada and Japan, the potential buyers nearly doubles. Wouldn't doubling your sales be pretty good?

Don't forget to fill out all of the drop down box details in auctions. This can inhibit your chances of being found in the ebay search and cost you money.

Combined Shipping, eBay SEO, and Using Twitter

Use new online tools, widgets and templates to make your store and auctions more interesting to buyers

* 17. Offer combined shipping rates on items. Sit down and figure this one out ahead of time and see how you can save the buyer the most money on shipping. They're thinking about this, so accomodate them!

* 18. Stock up on closeouts and clearance items at the end of the season, then sell them when the season comes around again. Example: bathing suits. Buy in September low, sell high in April/May.

* 19. State up front that your home is pet free and smoke free. Brag about the clean pride you take in the conditions of where your items are stored.

* 20. Use Widgets on sites like Facebook and MySpace to give buyers a taste of some of the items they can find in your store.

* 21. Hide your shipping costs to your buyer. You can do this by printing your own shipping labels. Buyers are less likely to think about how much profit you made from shipping if the shipping rate isn't on the box! This way, you're more likely to get those valuable star ratings and positive feedbacks that are essential for your success. Think about it.. do other big businesses display their shipping costs to you?

* 22. Package lower priced items in lots so it's cheaper for your buyers, and more effective for you.
Save more time and money by packaging small items in lots. Buyers appreciate it, too.
* 23. Try personally emailing your customers about incentives and deals. I've found that personal emails (via the eBay message system, or by email) from the seller are always welcome from the buyer, and they show that you truly value their business.

* 24. Research keywords to use in your store listings, custom pages, header, and guides by using keyword tools.

* 25. Follow some key eBay people to keep track of the latest eBay news and tips on Twitter.

* 26. Speaking of Twitter, you can utilize Twitter to increase eBay sales by broadcasting your latest auction items, and even notify people when an item is ending soon.

* 27. Before you set up your store, choose a name wisely! You may want to consider a keyword that's relevant to what you sell.
Reach out to new buyers by optimizing your store for search engines.

* 28. Ebay SEO is essential to getting outside search engine traffic flowing to your store. Learn it and practice it!

* 29. With your highest volume selling items, consider running shorter auctions to move inventory quicker. As always, link to your store in your auction!

* 30. Create an auction template to make your auctions more enticing, colorful, and professional. Or, you can buy an auction template that's already made. It's as easy as copying and pasting the code into your auction.

* 31. Move more inventory and spark interest in your store using the eBay Markdown Manager on occassion. Use it sparingly!

Write up a rock solid return policy. eBay is cracking down and really encouraging sellers to allow returns. To avoid returns, state everything in your auction clearly where people can see it, and describe your item perfectly. Buyers are more likely to shop if they feel safe with a return policy.

Be Smart and Avoid Pricey Listing Features, Let Go of Stale Ebay Inventory, and Free Up More Time

Automate listings, find new income opportunities, and drop items that are weighing you down

* 32. Use ProStores to create your own webstore and ecommerce solution. You'll get your own checkout cart, and you won't have to pay the heavy final value fees or listing fees.

* 33. Learn when to let go of your inventory. Sometimes, it's better to sell at a loss than to hold onto an item for months on end. Move onto the next hot thing and cut your losses!
Not responding to a message can cost you money! Inquiring customers are very likely to buy.
* 34. Answer questions quickly from buyers through your cellphone if you can. Waiting often results in losing the sale!

* 35. Supplement your income on eBay by selling ebooks! If you're a decent writer and you know a lot about a certain subject, write up an ebook and have passive income flowing in, in addition to your eBay store.

* 36. Choose the right category for your items. Research completed items and current to see what category the majority of these items are being listed in, and stick with those.

* 37. Avoid pricey listing features that sound tempting. Anchor stores, front page listings, these all sound good, but they often don't deliver.

* 38. Do you know the basic of eBay selling? Are you sure? You may want to read these tutorials here and here just to be sure.

* 39. Free up more of your valuable free time by taking advantage of tools like Turbo Lister and the free eBay sales reports.

* 40. Are you taking advantage of every single discount and refund that you can possibly get? Those feeds ad up! This article points out some of the best ways that you can cut your fees quick.

* 41. Venture out into the web 2.0 world and find other sites besides MySpace and Facebook. For instance, here's a list of social bookmarking and networking sites, and here's ten reasons why you should market yourself on YouTube. The possibilities are nearly endless for ways that people can find you on the web nowadays.

Fine Tune Your eBay Business with Solid Return Policies, Accurate Record Keeping and New Ideas

Use methods to sell more like the loss leader method while keeping your business fresh and managable

* 42. Implement the "loss leader" method and see if it works for you. Consider it your advertising budget for your eBay store. Only use popular items, and ones that you have more of in your store. Start it at a penny with no reserve, put links to "buy it now without waiting for the auction to end" in your listing, and see store sales increase. It works, I've tried it!
Make money by losing money? eBay is all about finding the deal, and that's why the loss leader method is so effective.
* 43. Visit the eBay Discussion Boards and Powerseller Boards (open to Powersellers only) to see what you can learn and do for each other. A great resource!

* 44. Know when to not sell an item on eBay. The best example is books, which are often better sold on Amazon. They'll fetch a much higher price.

* 45. Automate, automate, automate. Automate your emails, your feedback, and relisting of items as soon as possible so you can concentrate on larger, more important tasks to grow your eBay business.

* 46. Have your finances, paperwork, and tax information settled from day one. You'll be thankful later when tax time comes, and you'll run a tighter, more efficient business.Packaging your items correctly and safely will impress customers and save you money.

* 47. Learn how to package and ship your eBay items for a safe arrival to minimize breakages and impress customers. It's your first impression on customers in-person, make it a good one!

* 48. During the holidays, offer free shipping on higher priced items and work that into the cost of the item. Free shipping is getting more and more popular with buyers, and even expected.
