Best Wireless Gaming Mouse

Want To Get Rid Of That Tangled Cord?

If you're a PC gamer you'll be familiar with the concept of gaming mice. These are mice that outperform those cheap standard mice you get with PCs. They pack lots of features into their tiny plastic shell, including high-sensitivity laser sensors, lots of buttons, onboard memory with profiles and trick LED lighting.

But have you ever been annoyed by a tangled mouse cord when you're frantically trying to frag your mates in an online match? How about getting rid of that cord? What's the best wireless gaming mouse that could give you that cordless freedom AND give you all of the features that you're used to in a gaming mouse?

Why Pick A Wireless Gaming Mouse?

There are those who will tell you that wireless mice are no good. They eat batteries, the laser sensors aren't as good as corded mice and they suffer from lag, meaning a crippling delay between you making a movement and the signal being sent to the PC.

That might have been the case a few years ago, but no more. On the issue of battery life, some wireless gaming mice now come with a detachable cord. This gives you the benefits of wireless freedom, but when the battery charge is exhausted you can simply plug in a cord and recharge the batteries while you play. Easy!

The sensors you get in wireless mice are no worse than those you'd get in a corded mouse. Take the Logitech G700 and Razer Mamba as two perfect examples - the sensors are capable of 5,700 dpi and 5,600 dpi respectively. So they're not exactly lagging behind their corded cousins. The response times are also as good (1 millisecond), so you're not losing out in that respect either.

Finally there's the issue of lag. With advances in wireless technology it's practically impossible to detect any lag between the mouse and the PC. Of course there is some lag there as it's going to take a millisecond or two for a signal to be transmitted from the mouse to its receiver, but will you notice the delay? Not likely.

Of course, there are limitations with wireless devices, and the most likely problem you'll have is interference. But this is only likely to occur in crowded places with a lot of wireless activity going on. In the comfort of your own home you should be fine.

Razer Mamba

Razer Mamba Wireless Mouse

The Razer Mamba wireless gaming mouse manages to combine great features with a splash of style. The black, rubberized shell looks and feels great, while the blue backlighting looks just right. Even the charging stand that comes with the Mamba is a stylish piece of kit.

Of course, looks count for nothing in-game but the Mamba packs all the features you'd expect in a top wireless gaming mouse. As well as the charging stand you get a detachable USB charging cable so you can plug in and continue gaming if the battery runs flat. The sensor is a 5,600 dpi laser with full adjustability, while there are seven buttons to setup as you see fit.

Sensor: 5,600 dpi laser
Buttons: 7 programmable
Pros: Stylish looks, charging stand and detachable charging cable
Cons: On the expensive side
Rating: 9/10

Logitech G700

Logitech G700 Wireless Gaming Mouse

At first glance the wireless Logitech G700 may look like a G500 with the cord chopped off, but it is more than that. The G700 features the same, large shape that is lovely to hold (ideal for palm-grippers, less so for claw-grippers). The button layout is subtly different and gives the G700 more programmable buttons than the G500 - thirteen instead of ten. Underneath is the same laser sensor with up to 5,700 dpi of sensitivity.

Like the Razer Mamba, the Logitech G700 uses a detachable USB cable. The receiver is a tiny USB device, so be aware that the G700 will require two available USB slots.

Sensor:5,700 dpi (adjustable) laser sensor
Buttons:13 programmable
Pros: Detachable charging cable, solid build, lots of buttons
Cons: Not for every hand
Rating: 8/10

Cyborg R.A.T.9

Cyborg RAT9 Wireless Gaming Mouse

The Cyborg R.A.T. 9 is a strange looking beast, but within those strange angles lies the heart of this mouse. It's adjustable in almost every direction you could need, has variable weights and you can even swap some sections so that you can make it fit your hand, not the hand of the typical gamer.

Of course, the R.A.T.9 is wireless and comes with a super sensitive and adjustable 5,600 dpi sensor and there are seven programmable buttons to play with.

Power is provided by two lithium-ion batteries. One battery powers the mouse while the other recharges in the USB-powered dock that also acts as the receiver for the mouse.

Sensor: 5,600 dpi
Buttons: 7
Pros: Adjustable, looks different (but in a good way)
