Relive some of the classic videos that made Youtube so great in the first place!

I've been a long-time fan of Youtube and the viral entertainment it's provided since it's inception back in 05. Created by former Paypal Employees Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, it was bought out by Google for a reported 1.65 BILLION USD (that's a BILLION people - yeah, if you thought your lonesome existence was insignificant already, it just got a little more insignificant).

I will be quite honest, in the past year, I feel like Youtube has lost it's spark as the MVP of the inter-web and has become more of a staple (or as I would like to say, become a corporate-mega-whore) of the online universe.

I think all of Youtube's greatness has been taken for granted these days and I wanted to go back in time to check out some of the most classic videos that made our viral video-going experience what it is today.
So with no further or due, I present to you the Top 10 Classic Youtube Videos.

Thanks for checking this out.

Number 10. Bride - Massive Hair Wigout

It takes a while to see where this is going. But the last 5 seconds of this video are all worth it!
Marriage is serious business! Not to be taken lightly.

Trivia:
Uploaded in early 2007, this video was originally claimed to have been shot by one of three bridesmaids.

Viewers, and eventually the news media, began debating whether it was real or staged. It was later revealed that the video was part of a campaign created by marketing firm Capital C, for Unilever - for its Sunsilk brand of hair care products - that was apparently rejected.
It features actor/writer Ingrid Haas who was hired as the writer and bridesmaid along with Jessie Behan (who plays the most attentive bridesmaid) and John Griffith directed and shot it.

Number 9. Numa Numa Dance

This guy must be sick of this song by now.

Trivia:
Numa Numa Dance is a video made by Gary Brolsma - the song title to which he's rocking out to is "Dragostea din tei" by O-Zone.
Brolsma's video was released in December 2004 on Newgrounds.com.
Less than three months after the release, it had been viewed more than two million times.

Number 8. Dramatic Chipmunk

I love this one. I still don't understand how they were able to get this on camera! Impecable timing - kudos!

Trivia:
Dramatic Chipmunk is a popular viral video, originally released on June 19, 2007 on CollegeHumor.
Despite the title, the video actually features a prairie dog and not a chipmunk.
Dramatic Chipmunk is a clip of an episode the Japanese morning show "Hello! Morning" featuring Mini Moni.

Number 7. Chinese Backstreet Boys - That Way

Oh, joy - I remember this one.

Trivia:
The Back Dorm Boys - as they are dubbed - were sculpture majors at the Guangzhou Arts Institute who recorded countless series of "lip-sync" videos on low res web cams in their dorm rooms.
The two in the video are Wei Wei, who is often called simply "the big one", and Huang Yi Xin, who is "the small one".
A third "dorm boy", Xiao Jing, is in the background of most of the videos playing the Counter-Strike computer game.

Wei and Huang graduated from college in 2006 with two corporate deals already in their pockets: one as spokesperson for Motorola in China and another as a blogger and podcaster with the Chinese Internet Portal Sina.com. They're now in the midst of a five-year deal with Beijing media company Taihe Rye that's made them full-fledged TV stars, with appearances in commercials for major vendors such as Pepsi.

Number 6. Sneezing Panda

I'm not the cuddly-type, but damn that's adorable.

Number 5. Hyperactive - Lasse Gjertsen

What a sensation this was, spawning a dozen copycats including commercials and promo spots (domestically and abroad!!!) - this guy, Lasse Gjertsen, awakened us to the many possibilities of video manipulation for Youtube that anybody with simple editing skills could produce.
Another great vid by him is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqumbhfxRo

Trivia:
Lasse Gjertsen's success on Youtube has resulted in offers from international companies like Chevrolet and MTV. However, Gjertsen publicly denounced the concept of advertising, considering it below prostitution, and has refused all such offers.

Number 4. Maze Prank - The Original

God, I nearly beat the shit out of my friend who pranked me on this one . . . . or gave him a piece of my mind . . . a little . . . . . or I might have been lying in my own piss balled up in the fetal position crying like a b**** . . .

Number 3. Star Wars Kid - VFX Added

The very definition of a involuntary celebrity, this clip was such a viral sensation, it was paid homage (or parodied depending on how you look at it) in South Park and Arrested Development among others.

The original with no added effects can be found at the link below for all you purists out there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPPj6viIBmU

Trivia:
On November 4, 2002 the star wars kid (a fourteen-year-old Quebecois high school student) made a video of himself swinging a golf ball retriever around as Darth Maul. The video was filmed at his high school studio where he took someone else's tape and inadvertently taped over a portion of their basketball game (as seen extremely briefly at the end of the clip) and leaving it in the studio. The original owner of the videotape discovered it and immediately shared it with friends. One of them encoded it to a WMV file and published it over the Kazaa peer-to-peer file sharing network.

In July 2003, the star wars kid's family filed a CA$250,000 lawsuit against the families of four of his schoolmates. The lawsuit stated, in part, that he "had to endure, and still endures today, harassment and derision from his high-school mates and the public at large" and "will be under psychiatric care for an indefinite amount of time."
The lawsuit had been scheduled to begin trial on April 10, 2006,[4] but on April 7, the boy and his parents reached an out-of-court settlement with the defendants.

Number 2. Miss Teen USA 2007 - South Carolina Answered the Question?

Miss South Carolina (Caitlin Upton)=Gaping Flaws in the American Educational System
And we should thank her for pointing that out to us.

Trivia:
After Caitlin Upton (South Carolina) was asked why Americans are unable to locate the U.S. on a map she was buzzed out for her long disjointed answer, which brought the attention to Hilary Cruz (Colorado) who was up next. She was grilled with the tough question, "Who do you prefer: Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, or Paris Hilton?" - does it seem unfair at all? You tell me.
Despite her muddled answer, Caitlin placed 3rd runner up for Miss Teen USA
and beat out Chelsea Welch of West Virginia.

Number 1. Leave Britney Alone!!!

The most ridiculous video I have seen to date, this video by Chris Crocker has to be one of the scariest living organisms I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing.
It scares me to think some people actually look up to this guy from all the fame and attention he has gained thru doing this video.
Pretty hilarious though.

Trivia:
Chris Crocker's work consists mainly of short-form self-directed "monologues about life" shot in his grandparents' home. This viral video of a tearfully Crocker defending pop singer Britney Spears's "lackluster MTV comeback" had over four million views in two days.

Critics have accused Crocker of acting in the "Leave Britney Alone" video, although he insisted it was genuine on a September 2007 appearance on Maury Povich's Maury show.

In September 2007 Variety magazine revealed Crocker had signed a development deal with 44 Blue Productions to star in a documentary-style reality television show.
