Zanzibar Coasts are one of the most ideal place for beach holidays and honeymoons.

Zanzibar has a large number of beach and Stone Town Hotels of different categories to cater for all classes of travellers.

Our Zanzibar Hotels, Resorts, lodgings and accommodation and safari camp is a guideline as to the location of hotel and the room rates.

This may be basically divided into:

1. Zanzibar Stone Town Hotels, which have few sporting facilities and rarely have a garden but are steeped in character.

2. Out of Zanzibar town beach hotels: these are more modern, generally set in fine gardens by the beach, and offering a variety of water sports. As a rule the east coast beaches: are more beautiful but they face the prevailing winds and as a result the seas here are rougher.

The best hotels in Zanzibar will be found in the South East, and some in the North whilst Pemba Island has a fantastic lodge, Fundu Lagoon Pemba Island which you have to check out.

A night or two in Stone Town will complete your trip to Zanzibar, and might be a necessity, depending on your flight schedules.

If you are into cultural activities, you might want to spend more than a night in Stone Town, as this is where it all happens.

The North Coast, and the East Coast and the North East Coast, of Zanzibar offer the best places for relaxation and water sports.

The East Coast of Zanzibar is famous for its pristine palm fringed beaches,-miles and miles of it as far as the eyes could see.

The East Coast of Zanzibar is lined with powder-white beaches which look out towards a long barrier reef, about a kilometer offshore.

Voted and included in the Top 30 Island Beaches in the world by the prestigious Conde' Nast Traveler in their article "20 years...30 beaches"!!

Zanzibar's East Coast was named as one of the top island beaches in the world standing shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Petit St Vincent in the St Vincent and the Grenadines, Plaza de las Salinas in Ibiza, Shipwreck Beach in Zakynthos to name a few.

Breezes Beach Club is one of the popular hotels on this coast.

Inland there's a coastal strip of coconut palms within which there are small fishing villages and a variety of places to stay.

There's good diving and snorkeling here, Ocean Paradise Resort and Matemwe Beach Retreat & Lodge and Shooting Star Inn have nearby dive centers for easy diving and snorkeling trips. (Such trips often visit the reefs around Mnemba Island.)

A new facility is the Neptune Pwani Beach Resort and Spa Zanzibar and check out Palms Private Villas not to forget the new Fairmont Zanzibar Hotel and Lodges!!

To the north of this long coast, Matemwe Beach Bungalows and Retreat occupies an isolated spot above a long sandy beach.

It's a reliable choice; with stylish upgraded rooms, plenty of space and it has a very well-established atmosphere.

Karafuu Beach Resort and Spa another classic tucked away in the Mchamvi Bay, well recommended!!

In a class of it's own, tanzania's top beach destination is Mnemba Island - a small island about 5km off Zanzibar's east coast with one, small exclusive lodge on it taking just 20 people. You really can go barefoot all day here, Robinson Crusoe style . Mnemba Island costs are very high, but then it is very good, and it's almost always full! With a visitors list including Bill Gates, Naomi Campbell cost of the rooms isn't the issue to many of Mnemba Islands guests.

A relative newcomer to the scene is the simple but promising Pongwe Beach hotel. (Don't be misled by the name: it is more of a lodge than a resort!) It stands in a shady cove of its own and is a simple, and very good-value spot, isolated and offering maximum privacy.

Above the stunning Kiwengwa Beach, Shooting Star Inn has been a firm favourite for years.

The east coast used to be the location for a holiday for most youngsters 10 years ago, but the north coast has developed so fast with roads and hotels all along the coastline and most youth prefer the north coast of Zanzibar these days.

If you have more time for your stay on Zanzibar, it is recommended that you stay nights on both east coast and north coast, probably a night or two in the Stone Town itself too.

Zanzibar North Coast Hotels, Resorts, Accomodation and Lodges

Zanzibar Lodgings in the North Coast, Kendwa Beach and Nungwi Village

Zanzibar north coast hotels resorts accommodation lodgings

2 hours drive from stone town, the village of Nungwi has traditionally been the centre of Zanzibar's dhow-building industry.

However, over the last decade the coastline here has turned into one of Zanzibar's busiest beach areas. What was a ramshackle fishing village has become an increasingly busy place as various guesthouses, bars, shops and restaurants appear.

The setting is beautiful, but the number of people in Nungwi town, the noise and the constant stream of apparently uncontrolled development do take the exclusive air off its charm.

That said, a visit to the turtle sanctuary is very worthwhile here, and for our traveler who loves night-life its the place to be.

We've included the immaculate flame tree cottages.

It's a particularly lovely small guest house a short walk from Nungwi's centre. It's near enough to take part in the nightlife, but far enough away for you to get a good night's sleep even when there are still revelers on the beach.

On the east side of the island's tip, the ras nungwi beach resort has always been at the top end of Nungwi's lodges. It's a popular small hotel with high standards of service; really excellent food; compact, well-kept gardens, a swimming pool and a lovely small stretch of beach.

Kendwa Beach, Nungwi, amaan kendwa beach resort, Sunset Bungalows and Kendwa Rocks located on a beach voted the most "dreamlike" beach on the planet over the month of February is now even more popular then the northern Nungwi tip itself!!

The East Coast used to be the location for a holiday for most youngsters 10 years ago, but the north coast has developed so fast with roads and hotels all along the coastline and most youth prefer the north coast of Zanzibar these days as it also has a busier night life on offer!!.

If you have more time for your stay on Zanzibar, it is recommended that you stay nights on both coast and probably a night or two in the stone town itself. We recommend you email us for a quote!

QUEEN - Freddy Mercury

Freddy- Zanzibars Most Famous Son!!

Queen are an English rock band formed in 1970 in London by guitarist Brian May, singer Freddie Mercury (born 9/5/1946 in Zanzibar, Tanzania) and drummer Roger Taylor, with bassist John Deacon joining the following year. Queen rose to prominence during the 1970s and are one of Britain's most successful bands of the past three decades.

Few bands embodied the pure excess of the '70s like Queen. Embracing the exaggerated pomp of prog rock and heavy metal, as well as vaudevillian music hall, the British quartet delved deeply into camp and bombast, creating a huge, mock-operatic sound with layered guitars and overdubbed vocals.

Queen's music was a bizarre yet highly accessible fusion of the macho and the fey.

Queen composed music that drew inspiration from many different genres of music, often with a tongue-in-cheek attitude.

Among the genres they have been associated with are: arena rock, dance/disco, glam rock, hard rock, heavy metal, pop rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock.

Queen also wrote songs that were inspired by genres that are not or barely associated with rock, such as country, ragtime, opera, gospel, vaudeville and folk. They also experimented with rock-genres such as punk rock and speed metal, amongst others.

The loss of Freddie Mercury
By the late '80s, Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS, but decided to keep his condition under wraps as he focused on recording further albums with Queen as well as issuing sporadic solo singles and an opera-meets-pop album with Montserrat Caballé entitled Barcelona. But by 1991, Mercury's battle with AIDS had taken a turn for the worse, and on November 24, 1991 (just one day after deciding to go public with his ailment), Mercury died at his home in London.

Bohemian Rhapsody Video
A Night at the Opera (1975) featured the hit single "Bohemian Rhapsody", which was number one in the United Kingdom for nine weeks, and is Britain's third-best-selling single of all time; it also reached number nine in the United States (a 1992 re-release reached number two).

Bohemian Rhapsody has been voted, several times, the greatest song of all time

Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics

Released 31st October, 1975

Is this the real life ?
Is this just fantasy ?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me, to me

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooo
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody - I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo - (anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning - very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo Figaro - magnifico

But I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go - will you let me go
Bismillah! No - we will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go - let me go
Will not let you go - let me go (never)
Never let you go - let me go
Never let me go - ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no -
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
For me
For me

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby - can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out - just gotta get right outta here

Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters - nothing really matters to me

Anyway the wind blows...
