Reward credit cards were virtually non-existent until 1986. Whoever heard of getting cash back just by using your credit card? Or points...or miles, or whatever.
Then came Superbowl Sunday. New Orleans was the site for two teams that were making their first appearance in the big game: Chicago and New England. The Bears routed the Patriots 46-10.
Something else happened that day. A new, young, upstart credit card called the Discover Card was featured in television commercials that day. The teams playing that day were not the only "firsts" witnessed by the fans.
Discover Card unveiled a CashBack® program. It was the beginning of another rout. TNS Consumer Card Strategies Research for 2007 shows that more U.S. households have a Discover Credit Card than any other card. Their Cashback Bonus® has been called America's #1 cash rewards program.
