Best Man Speeches

Best Man Speeches can be challenging for both the best man, and also the Bride and Groom, who he most wants to please on the day.

As well as the rest of the wedding party & guests.

I remember my own wedding and our best man was a dear dear friend of both myself and my husband.

You could not get a nicer guy. And articulate.

Except on the day...

HE CHOKED!

Big time.

I remember sitting there slightly stunned - but the look I was doing my best to disguise, was nothing compared to my husband's.  And unfortunately a well meaning relative took it upon themselves to try and get him to sit down and shut up.

He was so nervous, so lost his train of thought and he just kept on talking and dug the hole for himself deeper and deeper.

We spoke to him afterwards - and loved him no less. But it took many years for him to get over it - as he, like most best men - so wanted to do a great job.

So what is the key to a great best man speech?

From that wedding I took up Professional Speaking as one of my many vocations - it tied in neatly with where I wanted to take my career.

And I learnt a lot from undertaking training in that area.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

a) Be yourself - don't try to be someone you are not to 'please' the audience - an audience is in many ways like a child - they can spot a fake really quickly and you will lose rapport instantly.

b) Be prepared - actually write out before hand the speech - now here is an important tip. Recognize your learning style - for many people rote learning doens't cut it (that is having the speech written out in full) - so then creat bullet points. Or write it out in full, with highlights.

The main thing is that you know your own learning style and you do have SOME form of notes. Winging it generally sees you wishing to leave the whole party on some giant bird's wing!

c) Remember this is not about you. This is about the Bride and Groom. By all mean roast them - but it is not an opportunity to show your great comedic skills off and do a John Mayer. Also remember your audience is likely to span quite a few generations - some more conservative or not as worldy as you.

Always keep your audience in mind and create a speech that you feel will be pleasing to BOTH the bride and groom for years to come.

d) Have fun - as with a) being yourself - we can make it worse for ourselves by being nervous - and in fact this is a great sign that you are infact focused on yourself, rather than deciding that you are there to do a great job for those there.

Go here for some of the most popular Best Man Speeches - and you do not need to worry about sounding manufactured or that the audience will have heard it all before.  You will be shown how to create an original sounding speech that you feel confident in delivery!

Best Man Speeches will help you to feel confident, in control and have the audience in the palm of your hand on the day!
