Online Surveys : Extra Cash or a Waste of Time?
Hoping to get some extra cash I tried my hand at joining some survey sites. You definitely won't get rich but if you find the right sites you can probably get a few rewards and maybe some cash. I joined a bunch and stuck with the few that seemed worthwhile. I quickly found lots of scams. I obviously was not going to pay in order to join sites to take surveys. That would basically defeat my purpose so I avoided those ones.
Paid Surveys
Basically to join they all seemed to require learning a little about me. I answered some questions about my age, sex, income level and where I lived. Then based on your answers they decide what demographic you are in and what surveys they will send you. So hopefully you will fall into a popular demographic and get lots of surveys. Most sites I joined are based on points that you earn and can be traded in for prizes or cash.
Surveys are great if you get bored or just have some spare time
You won't be able to quit your day job. But if you answer a few surveys in your spare time it could be worth your while. I don't have a lot of free time with a full time job and 3 kids. But I typically try to do a few surveys whenever I am waiting for dinner to finish cooking or if I have some down time at work.
The length of time the surveys take can really vary. Some seem to just be a few questions while others can take up to like a half hour if you are exactly what they are looking for. But they all seem to compensate based on the amount of questions. The longest one I had was about what my son drank everyday for a week. It took about 5-10 minutes everyday but it got me a lot of points.
Survey Group
Some sites that you pay to join are actually legitimate. These are membership sites that link you with companies that want your opinion. I haven't tried any myself. I have read that some are great but I don't want to put any money into it. Some of the good ones are. If you find one that sounds good look into to make sure you are not getting taken for a scam.

Most Potential earnings
Both
InBoxDollars and
CashCrate seem to have the highest potential for earnings. By adding other people to these sites through referrals you can make a small percentage of their earnings too. By adding enough referrals of people that use these sites a lot the sky is the limit for what you can earn. I just started Cash Crate and it seems great. Both of these site also allow you to answer a survey a day to earn some easy money.
How about Mylot?
A forum that can earn you money
I just started using
Mylot and it seems like another great way to earn some extra cash. The site is a giant forum. The forum has groups for people with every interest under the sun. When I joined it took me forever to go through and add all of my interests. But, when I was done it would highlight discussions about my interests for me. I actually skipped some because it was taking forever. But you can easily go back and add more later. While using the forum you can earn money for each post. You only earn a few pennies or less for each post. But if you add referrals you will get 25% of what each referral makes. Another great suggestion would be to get your friends to join then talk to them through the forums. That way you will earn twice while talking to them.
Mylot also allows you to post HTML in your profile. So you can get more links to your Lenses and websites.
E-Rewards Prizes
Rather quickly I was able to make $50 with E-Rewards. The only thing was that you had to redeem the money by getting their prizes. The prizes mostly seemed to be air miles which I don't even know what I would do with. They had discounts like save 10% on a Sony TV. They also have Omaha Steak, Ebags, and Zales gift certificates. I originally wanted to see how much I could add up for Zales gift card but, in order to redeem the Zales discount I had to spend over $250 and couldn't use it on anything on clearance. Once I realized that it blew my plan out the window. So I figured the Game Stop Gift card would be perfect. For some reason the Game Stop gift card is the only prize that isn't actually equal to the amount of money you earn. I ended up using $50 to get the $25 gift card which didn't seem right, but it was the only prize I would use. I contacted them and complained. E-Rewards said that they are working on getting better prizes.
